Tai-Ex opening

The Tai-Ex opened up 18-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 16,481, on turnover of 4-billion N-T.
Shares in Taiwan encountered headwinds (逆風) Tuesday, amid overnight losses for U.S. markets and growing inflation concerns.
Selling was seen almost across the board, with shipping stocks in focus.
Losses on the broader market were capped after the bellwether electronics sector rallied from an earlier downturn with the help of late session buying.

School Closures in Hualien

Hualien County government has released a notice informing the public that schools will be closed today in five of the county's townships.
Those are Wanrong Township, Ruisui Township, Yuli Township, Zhuoxi Township and Fuli Township.
Fuyuan Junior High School in Guangfu Township will also remain closed today.
The closures are due to persistent (持續性的) torrential rain from the typhoon.
And Taitung County's Li-dao Village and Wu-lu Village have also announced work and school closures for today.
Chile Declares State of Emergency Amid Mapuche Clashes

Chilean President Sebastian Pinera has declared a state of emergency in 72 communities of two regions in southern Chile.
The move comes amid disturbances and attacks sometimes claimed by Indigenous Mapuche groups demanding the return of their ancestral (祖傳的) lands.
The order limits freedom of assembly and movement and also allows the military to support police.
The measure affects 40 communities in the Biobio region and 32 in La Araucania.
In the latter region, violence and conflicts have dragged on for decades, including attacks on forestry machinery and trucks.
In Biobio, which neighbors La Araucania, arsonists burned two churches, one Roman Catholic, one Evangelical.
London Apartment Fire Leaves Injuries

Authorities in London say a fire erupted (爆發了) on the 20th floor of an apartment building in the city's southwest, causing dozens of residents to flee the tower and injuring one woman and a child.
The London Fire Brigade says 70 firefighters and 10 fire engines rushed to the high-rise building in the Battersea area Tuesday evening local time and got the blaze under control.
London ambulance crews took a woman and a child to the hospital for treatment.
The fire brigade says the cause of the blaze is not yet known.
Australia Signs Agreement with NASA

Australia will embark on its first mission to the moon, before the end of the decade.
The countries Federal Government has signed a deal with Space Agency NASA to build a rover, destined (預定前往) for the Moon.
