Taiwan, U.S. vice presidents briefly interact in Honduras

Vice President William Lai exchanged brief greetings with his American counterpart Kamala Harris at the inauguration ceremony of Honduran President Xiomara Castro, making it the first time the vice presidents have interacted publicly.
As the last government envoy introduced into a packed (滿) sports stadium where the ceremony was held, Harris greeted all the government leaders one after another, including Lai, who was sitting in the front row near Costa Rican President Carlos Alvarado Quesada and Spanish King Felipe VI.
Lai and Harris exchanged greetings for a moment, marking the fist time that the two vice presidents have interacted at a public event after they took office in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
A US government official said Wednesday that Harris had only scheduled bilateral talks with Castro to take place after the inauguration.
Lai will wrap up his visit in Honduras after holding a press event with Taiwanese press corps, and he will make a transit in San Francisco on his return trip to Taiwan.
Adult children apply for work permits

The adult children of foreign professionals can now apply for work permits online without having to face bureaucratic delays.
The change, was announced by the Ministry of Labor's Workforce Development Agency, and applies to the adult children of foreign professionals seeking work permits.
Applications will be handled by the Agency's "EZ Work Permit" website, which provides services for foreign students, overseas Chinese students, ethnic Chinese students, and foreign professionals and their adult children.
The site includes information on legal regulations, eligibility (合格) conditions, and application forms. It also enables users to pay fees, issue notifications and make inquiries on work permit-related matters.

NKorea Vows to Speed Up Warhead Development

North Korea says its two latest rounds of weapons tests this week were successful and vows to speed up the development of more powerful warheads.
The most recent launches on Thursday appeared to be of a short-range ballistic missile that's part of an expanding arsenal of short-range weapons that could overwhelm missile defenses in the region.
State media reported on the tests today.
A separate report said North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspected a munitions (彈藥) factory and ``highly appreciated'' its workers' efforts to modernize North Korea's military.
North Korea has been ramping up its testing activity in recent months, including six rounds of weapons launches so far in 2022.

India and five central Asian countries have decided to set up a joint working group for providing aid to Afghanistan to tackle the humanitarian crisis and the issue of recognition of the Taliban.
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hosted a virtual summit with leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
A joint declaration after Thursday's summit called for the formation of a representative government in Afghanistan, combating terrorism and drug trafficking and preserving the rights of women and minorities (少數民族).
Chinese President Xi Jinping chaired a similar virtual summit with the leaders of the central Asian nations on Tuesday.
