The Tai-Ex opened up 13-points this morning from Friday's close, at 14,478 on turnover of 2-billion N-T.
The market gained ground on Friday, as investor interest in the bellwether electronics sector got a boost following strong gains by chip stocks on Wall Street.
Buying also spread to select old economy stocks, especially those in the transportation and steel sectors.
However, the upturn was limited amid lingering concerns over a possible recession (經濟衰退), as interest rate hikes continue worldwide.
Health Minister Accepts DPP Taipei Mayoral Nomination

Health Minister Chen Shih-chung has accepted a decision by the D-P-P to nominate him as it's candidate for the Taipei mayoral election.
In a statement released to local media following his nomination, Chen said "when the responsibility comes, I will shoulder it. I did so for the pandemic response, and I will do so for the election."
Chen said was "duty-bound to take on the task," "he has a profound (深刻的) love for Taipei as the city is his home," and he has some thoughts and expectations about the city, such as what direction it could take for further growth.
MND Denies Claims Taiwan is Providing Ukraine with Mortar Shells

The Ministry of National Defense is denying reports that Taiwan is providing Ukraine with 60-millimeter mortar shells.
The denial comes after a Ukrainian news agency published a photograph of mortar shells on which traditional Chinese characters appear and it said that shells has been donated by Taiwan.
However, the defense ministry says the report is "false" and the shells included in the article use a different system of serial numbers to the one employed by Taiwan's armed forces.
According to the ministry, Taiwan supports the sovereignty (主權) and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and opposes any use of military threat to change the status quo or violence toward the people of Ukraine.

Portugal Wildfire Fight Continues

More than 3,000 firefighters and 30 aircraft are battling wildfires in Portugal that authorities say have injured 29 people.
Authorities say 12 firefighters and 17 civilians required medical assistance to treat minor injuries caused by the blazes.
Portugal's Civil Protection Agency says the firefighters were combating (與…戰鬥) active fires on Sunday.
Portugal's prime minister and president both canceled trips abroad to stay at home with the drought-stricken nation under alert for fires and more hot weather.
Portugal has already adopted restrictions barring the public access to forests deemed to be at special risk, banning the use of farm machinery and outlawing fireworks.
Canada Network Failure Paralyzes Mobile and Internet Services

Canada's federal industry minister is summoning telecom executives following an outage at Rogers Communications Inc. that disrupted mobile and Internet services across the country, hampering several crucial services.
The minister says he will meet with industry executives including Rogers' chief executive officer, and discuss improving ``the reliability of networks across Canada."
The widespread disruption (中斷) began Friday morning and lasted at least 15 hours.
It paralyzed communications across sectors including health care, law enforcement and the financial industry.
Many 911 services couldn't receive incoming calls.
