The Tai-Ex opened down 81-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 14,638 on turnover of 2.2-billion N-T.

The Tai-Ex followed other regional markets and gained ground on Monday, after Wall Street rallied last Friday following encouraging news about U-S consumer sentiment and inflation expectations.


 Tourism Bureau Could Lift Ban on Tours

Transport Minister Wang Kwo-tsai says the Tourism Bureau could soon lifting a ban on inbound (入境) and outbound (出境) tours.

According to Wang, the move comes as the government is seeking to return Taiwan to a "normal life" amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The statement comes after President Tsai Ing-wen said her administration is assessing the best time to reopen Taiwan to international travelers.

Newly appointed Central Epidemic Command Center head Victor Wang says says his main goals include easing disease prevention measures and reopening borders.

However, he's also is stressing that any moves to reopen Taiwan to international travelers will first be carefully assessed to ensure it is ready and that the coronavirus situation is under control.


 Taiwan finishes World Games with 13 Medals

And,

Taiwan's 2022 World Game team will be bringing home 13 medals.

One of Taiwan's best performances during the Games was by its women tug of war team, which won gold in the outdoor 540 kilograms division.

Other Taiwanese medal winners included pool player Chou Chieh-yu, while the women's softball team got it's first podium finish at a world championship since 2002.

The delegation joined in the closing ceremony celebrations, including a procession (遊行) with around 1,000 international athletes, volunteers and staff, at the international multi-sport event in the U-S state of Alabama.


 UN Syria Talks Suspended Over Swiss Neutrality

The U.N. special envoy for Syria has expressed regret that talks between the government and opposition scheduled to start on July 25 in Geneva ``are no longer possible''.

The development reporteldy came about because President Bashir Assad's government contends that Switzerland is not neutral because of its support for European Union sanctions against its ally Russia.

U.N. deputy spokesman Farhan Haq didn't directly confirm the reason but said Monday that the UN does reaffirm the neutrality (中立的) of Switzerland as a venue for much of the work that the United Nations does.''

Geneva is the major European headquarters for the 193-member United Nations.


 US Touts Falling Gas Prices
