Tai-Ex opening

The Tai-Ex opened up 38-points this morning from Friday's close, at 14,589 on turnover of 3-billion N-T.
The market extended gains from the previous session on Friday to end the week above the 14,500 point mark, as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing led the bellwether electronics sector and the broader market higher, after it gave upbeat sales guidance for this year.
However, financial and old economy stocks largely remained in the doldrums (低迷), which saw turnover remaining at moderate 226-billion N-T.
Contacts in Suspected BA.5 Subvariant Cluster Test Negative

The Central Epidemic Command Center says contacts of a family believed to be infected with the coronavirus BA.5 Omicron subvariant have all tested negative for the disease
The three family members tested positive for in early July.
One of those case was considered to be re-infection, as the married couple's daughter had contracted (感染) the disease before, in May.
According to the epidemic command center, genome sequencing found that the woman was infected with the BA.5 subvariant, which was the first such case in Taiwan to have been unconnected to an imported source.
Twelve close contacts of the family have been tested - and the results were all negative.
Chou Chieh-yu Win's Silver in World Games Pool Competition

Taiwan's Zhou Jie-yu has won silver in the women's 9-ball competition at the World Games.
Zhou finishing second to Kelly Fisher of Great Britain.
According to the Sports Administration, Zhou says she had wanted to play in a defensive (防守、防禦性) style against Fisher but made an error in the second half of the match and was unable to recover.
Taiwan has won one gold, six silver and five bronze medals at the World Games, which are being held in the U-S state of Alabama.

NMacedonia Bulgaria Leaders Meet

The foreign ministers of Bulgaria and North Macedonia have met in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia to discuss the next steps of North Macedonia's path to EU membership talks.
The talks Sunday came a day after the parliament in Skopje voted in support of a French proposal that should lift Bulgari's veto of North Macedonia joining the bloc.
EU member Bulgaria had until recently held up any progress for those accession (加入) talks, accusing North Macedonia's government of disrespecting shared cultural, linguistic and historic ties.
Bulgaria's foreign minister said both countries agreed on ``extremely ambitious short-term and long-term measures, which in practice aim to solve many of the open issues.''
