Tai-Ex opening

The Tai-Ex opened up 58-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 14,950 on turnover of $3.3-billion N-T.
The Tai-Ex lost ground on Thursday as investors reacted to the U-S Federal Reserve's ratcheting up (逐漸升高、增加) of its campaign against surging inflation by raising its key interest rate three-quarters of a point.
Motorcycle Deaths Spike nearly 5%

The Ministry of Transport says the number of motorcyclists and their passengers killed in traffic accidents rose by almost 5-per cent in the first five months of this year.
The increase comes despite an overall decline in traffic related deaths and accidents.
According to the ministry, 150,511 traffic accidents were reported between January to May, resulting in 1,243 deaths and 199,547 injuries.
Those figures represent a 1.9-per cent decrease in traffic accidents, a 2-per cent decline (下降) in deaths, and a 2.9-per cent drop in injuries, from the same period of last year.
However, data shows that there were 779 deaths among motorcyclists and their passengers in the first five months of this year - and that's an increase of 4.8-per cent from last year.
Biden Xi Hold Talks

US President Joe Biden has held his fifth call with Chinese counterpart Xi Jingping.
The leaders of the two superpowers spoke for more than two hours, during which the US President "underscored" its opposition to efforts to "undermine (破壞) peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait."

French President Welcomes Saudi Crown Prince

French President Emmanuel Macron has welcomed Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to his presidential palace for a dinner.
The move marks another step in the Saudi leader's diplomatic rehabilitation (修復、翻新) less than four years after the Saudi slaying of critic Jamal Khashoggi.
It will cap a long day for the French leader: He was in Guinea-Bissau, wrapping up a visit to Africa, on Thursday morning.
The Saudi prince this week is making his first official visit to the European Union since Khashoggi's slaying in 2018 at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
The crown prince, meanwhile, was targeted in a legal complaint Thursday in a Paris court by a human rights group that alleged his complicity (同?) in Khashoggi's killing.
Argentina Appoints Economic "Super Minister"

Argentina's government has announced the appointment of an economic ``super minister,'' its third economy minister in less than a month as the country struggles with high inflation and a slumping (暴跌) currency.
President Alberto Fernandez's government said Thursday that Sergio Massa will head a new ministry that combines the current Economy, Productive Development, and Agriculture ministries.
Massa is now leader of Congress' lower house and will have to resign his legislative seat to take the Cabinet post.
