 KMT Chairman Criticizes Vaccine Rollout

發佈於 2021-07-15 13:22:04

KMT Chairman Johnny Chiang this morning criticized Taiwan's vaccine acquisiton (獲得) and rollout progress on his Facebook page.

Chiang said it's better to have a surplus of vaccines than be unable to reach the entire population.

He said the government should understand the concept of "overdeployment", and that surplus vaccines could be donated to other countries, extending the "Taiwan can help" mission.

Chiang also wrote that only 16.79 percent of residents had received their first vaccination, which is below the global average of 25.61 percent.

The KMT chairman said vaccines have become a strategic material, and that a far-sighted government should have a concept of risk in vaccine planning.

He accused health minister Chen Shih-chung of worrying about purchasing too many vaccines.

 Haiti Receives COVAX Vaccines

發佈於 2021-07-15 13:22:05

Haiti has received its first coronavirus vaccine since the pandemic began, welcoming 500,000 doses as the country battles a spike (非常高的數量) in cases and deaths.

The Pan American Health Organization said late Wednesday that the United States donated the doses via the United Nations' COVAX program for low-income countries.

Haiti's minister of public health says the vaccine will be administered for free.

Haiti has reported more than 19,300 confirmed coronavirus cases and more than 480 deaths as it fights a wave of COVID-19 cases that has forced hospitals to turn away patients.

Experts believe those numbers are widely underreported since there is scant (少量的;不足的) testing in Haiti, which has more than 11 million people.
