Tai-Ex opening

The Tai-Ex opened up 17-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 17,463 on turnover of 2.2-billion N-T.
The Tai-Ex lost ground on Monday, as market sentiment took hit on the back of volatility (易變) on Wall Street at the end of last week.
Market watchers say the bellwether electronics sector came under pressure in the wake of losses suffered by tech stocks on U-S markets.
However, financial and old economy stocks largely bucked the downturn and that helped the main board remain above the 60-day moving average of 17,405 points at the end the session.
Foreign Spouses and Underage Children Entry Ban Partially Lifted

The government is partially lifting an entry ban on foreign spouses of Taiwanese citizens and their underage children with immediate effect.
The ban had been place since since May 19, when almost all arrivals, except citizens and legal residents, were denied (被禁止、被拒絕) entry into Taiwan due a domestic coronavirus outbreak.
However, Deputy Interior Minister Chen Tsung-yen says the government has now reviewed that policy and decided to allow foreign spouses who are legally married to Taiwanese citizens, and their underage children to enter Taiwan for family reunion purposes.
The new policy also applies to those from Hong Kong, Macao and China.
Central Bank Expected to Keep Interest Rates Unchanged

The central bank is expected to leave its key interest rates unchanged when it holds its upcoming quarterly policymaking meeting next week.
Analysts say Taiwan has so far reported significant economic growth, but the coronavirus pandemic is still creating uncertainty within the domestic economy, and the central bank is unlikely to tighten its monetary policy.
The central bank opted to leave interest rates unchanged with the discount rate at 1.125-per cent at its previous quarterly policymaking meeting held in June.
And that was the fifth consecutive (連續的) quarter that the central bank has left its key interest intact.
The central bank will be holding its quarterly policymaking meeting on September 23.

Haiti President Assassination Investigation Continues

Haiti's Office of Citizen Protection is demanding that Prime Minister Ariel Henry step down as authorities seek to interview him about telephone calls he allegedly had with a key suspect in the president's assassination.
The office says Henry should appear at the public prosecutor's office as requested to help shed light on (將…弄明白、解釋) the July 7 killing of Jovenel Moise.
Also on Monday, Haiti's justice minister said the chief prosecutor who requested to interview Henry this week has received serious threats and demanded increased security for him.
More than 40 suspects have been arrested over the killing of Moise, including 18 former Colombian soldiers.
Authorities are still looking for additional suspects, including a former Haitian senator.
