Tai-Ex opening

發佈於 2021-10-05 10:26:02

The Tai-Ex opened down 46-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 16,362 on turnover of $4.2-billion N-T.

The Tai-Ex lost ground on Monday, falling more than 160-points, as it shed early gains on the back of a technical rebound on Wall Street at the end of last week.

Market watchers say old economy stocks, especially those in the shipping sector, came under heavy pressure during the trading day, which pushed broader market to negative territory.

While select large tech stocks either posted gains or recouped (收回、補償) part of their earlier losses to give some support to the main board at the end of the session.

UNICEF Calls for Funds for Young Mental Health

發佈於 2021-10-05 10:26:03

The U.N.'s child protection agency is urging governments to pour more money and resources into preserving (保存、守護) the mental well-being of children and adolescents.

UNICEF is releasing a report Tuesday that sounds alarms about blows to mental health from the COVID-19 pandemic that have hit poor and vulnerable children particularly hard.

It says psychiatrists quickly saw signs of distress, with children and adolescents seeking help for suicidal thoughts, anxiety, eating disorders and other difficulties as lockdowns and switching to remote learning cut them off from friends and routines and as COVID-19 killed parents and grandparents.

UNICEF says it may take years to fully measure how much of a dent the health crisis has made on young people's mental health, but it calls the impact ``significant.``
