Tai-Ex opening

The Tai-Ex opened up 17-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 16,905 on turnover of $3.23-billion N-T.
Shares in Taiwan closed lower Wednesday as investors took advantage of the initial upturn to lock in profits, sending the main board lower ahead of stiff technical resistance at around 17,000 points.
The bellwether electronics sector led the broader market in giving up earlier losses with large cap stocks in focus, while selling took place with most old economy and financial stocks with the exception (例外) of select stocks in the shipping and textile sectors.
But investors shifted to the sell side and cut their holdings in semiconductor heavyweights, in particular contract chipmaker TSMC, to push the main board down into negative territory by the end of the session.

Medigen Expects Results from Phase 3 Vaccine Trial in Paraguay in Q4

Medigen is accelerating a Phase 3 clinical trial in Paraguay for its COVID-19 vaccine.
The company said it's expected to produce key safety and efficacy data during the fourth quarter of this year.
The company started the clinical trial on Oct. 13 in cooperation with the School of Medical Sciences at the National University of Asuncion in the Paraguayan capital.
The trial compares recipients of the Medigen and AstraZeneca vaccines via a technique known as immunobridging, which uses the immune responses measured in trial participants to infer (推斷) a vaccine's overall level of protection.

Mexico Reaches Deal to Rebuild Subway Line

Mexico's richest man has reached an agreement with Mexico City authorities to rebuild or reinforce (加強) an elevated subway line that collapsed in May, killing 26 people.
Telecom and construction magnate Carlos Slim said his Grupo Carso's construction subsidiary would pay the cost of rebuilding the span that collapsed, and reinforcing other parts of the elevated line to meet higher standards.
Grupo Carso says the outlay did not constitute any admission of responsibility for the collapse, and would not ``materially affect'' the company's business.
EU Awards Navalny Top Human Rights Prize

Imprisoned Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been awarded the European Union's top human rights prize.
In awarding the Sakharov Prize to Navalny, the European Parliament praised his ``immense (無限的) personal bravery.''
The 45-year-old activist was poisoned with a nerve agent last year and promptly arrested upon his return to Moscow from treatment in Germany and later imprisoned.
Parliament President David Sassoli called for Navalny's immediate release.
He said Navalny has helped expose abuses and mobilized millions of people across Russia.
The 50,000-euro prize will be presented at the Dec. 15 session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France.
