MOI Introduces Draft Bill to Improve Building Fire Safety

The Ministry of the Interior has approved a draft amendment to the Condominium Administration Act.
If passed by the Legislative Yuan, the bill will mandate the creation (建立) of management committees for unsafe and old buildings built before 1995.
The move comes amid government moves to strengthen fire safety regualtions in older building following last week's deadly fire in Kaohsiung that left 46 people dead and many more injured.
The draft amendment will require all old buildings to create a management committee or elect a manager within a set time limit.
The municipal and county/city government will subsidize (補助) the cost of establishing the committees.
First Indigenous AJT off Production Line Makes Debut Test Flight

The Ministry of National Defense says the first indigenous advanced jet trainer to roll off the production line is now undergoing (正在經歷) test flights at the Ching Chun Gang Air Base in Taichung.
The aircaft has been developed and manufactured by the Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation.
And the trainer, with the serial number 11003, made its debut test flight accompanied by one of the company's two original prototypes.
According to defense officials, A-I-D-C plans to complete production of two advanced jet trainers by the end of this year.
A total of 66 new training jets are expected to be delivered by 2026.
China Evergrande Faces Deadline in Bond Payment

Debt-ridden property giant China Evergrande is facing a weekend deadline to settle (結清) a bond payment of more than 80 million dollars.

Nepal and India See Flooding and Landslides

Floods and landslides triggered by days of torrential (滂沱) rains have killed at least 99 people in Nepal since Monday.
In neighboring India, heavy downpours this week have also wreaked havoc, killing at least 88 people, while flooding roads, destroying bridges and causing landslides in which several homes were washed away.
Forecasters in Nepal are anticipating moderate rainfall later on Thursday but expect the weather to improve by the end of the week.
Landslides in India this week caused by downpours have killed at least 46 people in the northern state of Uttarakhand and 42 people in the southern state of Kerala, which is on alert for more rains.
Britain Queen Elizabeth Spends Night in Hospital

Buckingham Palace says Queen Elizabeth II spent a night in a hospital after being advised by her doctor to rest.
The palace says the 95-year-old British monarch went to hospital for ``preliminary investigations.''
It said she returned to her Windsor Castle home at lunchtime on Thursday, ``and remains in good spirits.''
On Wednesday, the queen canceled a scheduled trip to Northern Ireland.
The palace said she had ``reluctantly (不情願的)'' accepted medical advice to rest for a few days.
Britain's longest-lived and longest-reigning monarch, Elizabeth is due to celebrate 70 years on the throne next year.
