Health Minister Chen Shih-chung is warning that the recent surge (衝高) in domestic coronavirus infections have not yet peaked (到頂), despite the Central Epidemic Command Center reporting 216 new cases.

Tuesday was the fifth consecutive day (連續第五天) that new domestic cases remain over 100, and it was also the highest daily number this year - breaking the previous record of 183 on April 3.

According to the health minister, the number of domestic cases has yet to peak because several chains of infections are still ongoing.

However, Chen is stressing that there are adequate (足夠) numbers of hospital beds and rooms at quarantine centers and hotels to accommodate (容納) infected patients.

And,

The Central Weather Bureau says although the mercury dropped overnight, stable weather will persist (持續) for much of this week.

The mercury dropped to 14-degrees in some parts of the north and to 17-degrees in areas in the center and south overnight.

According to meteorologist (氣象學家) Wu Derong, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast show that the stable weather should continue into day.

However, seasonal northeasterly winds are expected to set tomorrow, bringing rain to much of the island, before stable weather conditions return on Friday.

Wu says temperature highs are expected to rise to highs of 30-degrees in the north and to 32-degrees or higher in the center and south this weekend.

Initially, there had been separate measures for the eastern and western sides, but the whole city is now subject to indefinite restrictions (遭受無限期的管制).

The important financial hub has battled a new wave of coronavirus infections for more than a month.

Residents in some areas of the city said the strict policy meant no-one was allowed to leave their housing compounds (社區), not even to collect essential provisions (基本物資).

They reported difficulties in ordering food and water online, with restrictions on when customers are able to place their orders (下訂單), because of a shortage of supplies and delivery staff (外送員).
