The Tai-Ex opened up 41.6-points this morning from yesterday's close, at
16,062 on turnover of $2.7-billion N-T.

The Tai-Ex followed most other regional markets and lost ground on Thursday,
closing the trading day down 276-points, but remaining about the 16,000

concerns about high inflation in the U-S.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is accusing Russia of weaponizing food
and holding grain for millions of people around the world hostage.

He told a U.N. Security Council meeting Thursday that the war has halted
maritime trade in large areas of the Black Sea and made the region unsafe for
navigation, trapping Ukrainian agricultural exports and jeopardizing global
food supplies.

Russia's U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia blamed Ukraine, not Russia, for
blocking 75 vessels and mining waterways.

U.N. food chief David Beasley warned the Security Council that the war in
Ukraine has created ``an unprecedented (空前的) crisis'' of escalating food
prices that are already sparking protests and riots.

Beasley urged world leaders to do everything possible ``to bring the markets
to stability because things will get worse.''

German automaker Mercedes-Benz said Thursday that it has auctioned an
extremely rare car from its company collection for about $143 million US
dollars

The company said the price paid by a private collector earlier this month for
the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe, makes it the most valuable car of all time.

The claim couldn't be independently verified (查對).

Mercedes Benz said the proceeds would be used to launch a fund providing
scholarships for young people to learn about and research environmental
science and decarbonization.

The car was one of just two prototypes built in 1955, and named after the
company's then-chief engineer.
