The Tai-Ex opened up 10-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 16,167
on turnover of $3.2-billion N-T.

Shares in Taiwan closed slightly higher Monday as the electronics sector gave
up its earlier gains with many investors reluctant (不願意) to chase prices
despite initial gains.

Buying rotated to old economy stocks, in particular the transportation
sector, which served as an anchor stabilizing the broader market at a time of
lingering concerns over further volatility on global markets.

Health Minister Chen Shih Chung says Taiwan is not currently planning to buy
a vaccine which provides crossover protection against monkeypox.

The illness is endemic to Africa and has been confirmed in at least a dozen
countries.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says cases of monkeypox have been
reported in at least 12 non-endemic countries since May 13, including in nine
European nations, the United States, Canada and Australia.

The disease, which is transmitted (傳送、傳染) through close contact with an
infected person or animal, causes symptoms that include a fever, rash and
swollen lymph nodes for between 2 to 4 weeks, and has a case fatality ratio
of 3-6 percent.

Taiwan's jobless rate edged lower in April from a month earlier.

The jobless rate fell 0.04 percentage points from a month earlier to 3.62
percent.

The Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics said employment
remained stable in April as the local economy grew at a steady pace.

But the department warns that the data was collected before Taiwan saw a
dramatic (戲劇性) increase in the number of COVID cases.

Officials now warn that the May jobless rate could rise.

Yemen's Houthi rebels say three people were killed in the country's capital
when a drone aircraft crashed in a neighborhood after being shot down.

In a statement, the Houthis say that their air defense system downed the
surveillance drone and that it belonged to the Saudi-led coalition with which
they are at war.

The Houthi claims could not be immediately verified (驗證).

A spokesman for the coalition did not immediately respond to a request for
comment.

There is a two-month truce in place in Yemen, the first nationwide ceasefire
since the start of the country's civil war in 2014.

Argentina's president and first lady will pay a fine of about $24,000 for
hosting a party in July 2020 that violated quarantine orders the head of
state himself had signed.

Those prohibited (禁止) group gatherings as a way to stem the spread of
COVID-19.

The fine will be in the form of a donation to Argentina's public health
network.

It will close a criminal case that was launched last year after photos
emerged of the first lady's birthday celebrations at a time when Argentines
were largely forbidden from leaving their homes.

Ukraine's president says a recent attack on Desna killed 87.
