The Tai-Ex opened up 38-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 15,176 on turnover of 4.8-billion N-T.

The Tai-Ex slid 277-point on Friday, as Asian markets fell after worries about rising coronavirus cases, Wall Street volatility (揮發性) and U-S economic aid plans.

Health Minister Chen Shih-chung says the latest locally transmitted coronavirus case visited Jiufen Old Street in New Taipei as well as several restaurants in Taoyuan, but he was unlikely to have been infectious (有傳染性的) during that period.

According to Chen, the Taiwanese man in his 50s, went to Jiufen Old Street and Amei Teahouse in New Taipei on January 25.

He then visited several places in Taoyuan on January 26, including a dumpling restaurant on Wen-Xing Road, the Fo Guang Shan Bao Ta Temple, the Yong-fu Chin Pao Columbarium, Da-Xi Old Street and the Bai Nian You Fan restaurant on Minquan Road.

The health minister says he was quarantined on the evening of January 26 after being listed as a contact of a coronavirus case, and was confirmed as being infected on Saturday.

Chen says it is unlikely he was infectious on January 25 and 26.

The Central Weather Bureau says a minor cold front will affect the north and northeast tomorrow, northeasterly winds strengthen.

Daytime temperatures in the areas are forecast to drop to between 18 and 20 degrees and rain is expected.

However, the cold front will be short-lived and the mercury will rebound (回彈、恢復) and clear skies are forecast from Wednesday, as the northeasterly winds weaken.

Residents of the north can then expect clear skies and highs of between 21 and 25 for the remainder of the week.

But partly cloudy skies and occasional showers will persist in the northeast until Friday.

Reports says a military coup is taking place in Myanmar and State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi has been detained (被拘留) under house arrest.

All communications to Naypyitaw appeared to have been cut, and Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy party could not be reached.

Myanmar lawmakers were to gather today for the first session of Parliament since last year's election, with tension lingering over recent comments by the military that were widely seen as threatening a coup.

Online news portal Myanmar Now cited unidentified sources about the arrest of Suu Kyi and her party's chairperson early today and did not have further details.

More than 5000 protesters have been arrested in Russia for demanding the release of jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny.

AP Correspondent Sarah Bassett reports.

Thousands of ultra-Orthodox Israelis have participated in a pair of funerals for two prominent rabbis in Jerusalem, flouting the country's ban on large public gatherings amid the pandemic.

Sunday's midday funeral procession for Rabbi Meshulam Soloveitchik wended its way through the streets of Jerusalem.

Later Sunday, thousands of mourners attended the funeral of 98-year-old Rabbi Yitzhok Scheiner.

Israeli media said both men had died of COVID-19.

Israeli police did little to stop the processions, despite lockdown restrictions barring (禁止) mass gatherings.

Police say attempting to disperse the crowds would have been unwise and dangerous.
