The Tai-Ex opened up 136-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 15,546 on turnover of 8.3-billion N-T.

The market rebounded Monday from a slump last week, as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing led the bellwether electronics sector higher during the trading session.

However, despite a more-than 270-point spike on the main board during the session, turnover remained moderate, as many investors appeared reluctant (不願意) to chase prices ahead of the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday.

The Central Epidemic Command Center says it will be expanding the scope of coronavirus testing later this week to cover all people working at Taoyuan General Hospital to make sure no patient is missed.

According to Health Minister Chen Shih-chung, since the cluster infection broke out at the hospital on January 12, a total of 4,337 people have undergone or are still undergoing 14-day quarantines.

Of them, 1,820 have tested negative for the coronavirus, but testing is continuing.

And now all other hospital employees and contract workers will be required to get P-C-R and antibody tests from tomorrow to make sure no positive cases are slipping through the cracks (遭遺漏,被遺忘).

The Health Minister is not saying how many additional people he expects to be tested under the new policy.

The Central Weather Bureau says we can expect occasional showers in the north and some rain in the east today, but sunny skies are forecast from tomorrow onwards pretty much islandwide.

According to the weather bureau, northeasterly winds will likely bring daytime temperatures down to around 18-degrees in northern parts of the island.

From tomorrow through Sunday we can expect clear skies islandwide, with only intermittent (間歇的,斷斷續續的) showers in the east and mountainous parts of the greater Taipei area.

However, the sunny skies will gradually make way for more cloud cover by Sunday, as fresh northeasterly winds approach Taiwan.

Iranian state TV has aired the launch of the country's newest satellite-carrying rocket, which it said was able to reach a height of 500 kilometers.

The footage of the solid-liquid-fueled rocket showed the launch (發射) taking place during daytime in a desert environment.

The report did not say when or where the launch happened.

The rocket did not launch a satellite into orbit.

State TV says the rocket is capable of carrying a 220-kilogram satellite.

Vatican Museums reopen after weeks of lockdowns.

AP Correspondent Walter Ratliff reports.

South Africa's government has announced the number of rhinos killed in the country's national parks dropped by 33% last year, with COVID-19 restrictions helping by reducing movements around the country.

According to authorities, 394 rhinoceroses were poached (偷獵,偷捕;盜獵) for their horns compared to 594 that were killed in 2019.

The country's environment minister says that during the COVID-19 hard lockdown period there was a significant reduction in poacher incursions into Kruger National Park.

The country's largest national park, Kruger experienced 1,573 poaching activities overall during the period, a 21.9% decrease compared to 2019.

The minister says 2020 was the sixth consecutive year that a decline in poaching in the country had been recorded.
