Tai-Ex opening

The Tai-Ex opened up 100-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 17,302 on turnover of 9.2-billion N-T.
The Tai-Ex tumbled by more than 100-points on Wednesday, as the bellwether electronics sector took a hit from losses on Wall Street overnight.
Market watchers say buying rotated to old economy stocks in the shipping and cement sectors, as investors looked outside the tech sector, lending (增添，添加) some support to the broader market.
The electronics sector lost 1.13-per cent during Wednesday's session, while the semiconductor sub-index was down 1.52-per cent.
Pilots Coronavirus Infections Remain Under Investigation

Central Epidemic Command Center spokesman Zhuang Ren-siang says health officials are still investigating how two Taiwanese pilots became infected with the coronavirus.
The pilots returned from an assignment to the United States last Friday, and test results show that both only recently contracted (患上，感染（疾病）) the disease.
The on-going investigation is looking into whether they were infected in the U-S, or if one of them contracted the disease first and then infected the other.
Health officials have tested 143 of their 168 contacts here in Taiwan for the coronavirus, and 132 of those tests have returned negative results, the results of 11 other tests are pending and the remaining 22 contacts will be tested soon.
Rain and High Waves Forecast as Typhoon Surigae Passes

The Central Weather Bureau says Typhoon Surigae is expected to bring rain to northeastern parts of the island and high waves in coastal areas today, as it nears Taiwan.
The storm is not forecast to directly affect Taiwan, but it will be passing closest to Taiwan this morning.
The outer bands of the typhoon will bring rain to northeastern and mountainous (多山的；有山的) area in the east and the weather bureau is warning of waves in coastal areas in eastern and southern Taiwan of as much as six meters in height.
Surigae is currently located some 600 kilometers southeast of Eluanbi, at Taiwan's southern most tip.
Russia Protests for Navalny

EU Reaches Tentative Climate Deal

The European Union has reached a tentative climate deal that is intended to make the 27-nation bloc climate-neutral by 2050.
EU member states and lawmakers agreed on new carbon emissions targets on the eve of a virtual summit hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden.
Under the provisional deal reached early Wednesday, the EU will also commit itself to an intermediate (中間的，居中的) target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels.
Guatemala Morales Faces Losing Immunity

Guatemalan prosecutors have requested that former President Jimmy Morales be stripped of his immunity so he can be prosecuted for violating the mandate of the UN backed anti-corruption mission then working in the country.
Morales, who led Guatemala from 2016 to 2020, has immunity because after his term he immediately became a representative to the Central American Parliament.
To lift Morales' immunity the Supreme Court will assign the case to a judge who will decide whether the evidence presented by prosecutors is valid (有效的，正式認可的).
That judge will then make a recommendation and the Supreme Court will take the final decision.
Neither Morales nor his lawyers immediately commented.
