Tai-Ex opening

The Tai-Ex opened up 35-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 16,969 on turnover of $5.6-billion N-T.
The market extended losses from a session earlier Tuesday to close below the 17,000-point mark, as investors opted (選擇，挑選) to lock-in gains built for large-cap non-tech stocks.
The bellwether electronics sector continued to trend lower, but its losses were limited, as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing and United Microelectronics managed to buck the downturn to end in positive territory.
The shipping sector was highlighted as foreign institutional investors cut their holdings.
And that saw Evergreen Marine falling by the maximum daily decline of 10-per cent, while Yang Ming Marine Transport lost 8.78-per cent.
LY Adopts Taiwan-Belize Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty

Lawmakers have ratified a Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters treaty between Taiwan and Belize.
The agreement will allow the two sides to cooperate on crime prevention and prosecution.
The treaty was unanimously agreed on by members of the Foreign and National Defense Committee and the Judiciary and Organic Laws and Statutes Committee, without the need to go through party caucus discussions.
The treaty comprises of 22 articles under which the two countries will be able assist each other in the areas of crime prevention, criminal investigation, prosecution, and court procedures.
Deputy Foreign Minister Tien Chong-guang says the treaty will serve as a legal framework for more effective collaboration (合作；協作) between Taiwan and Belize, one of its diplomatic allies, to combat transnational crime.
Facebook to Decide on Trump Return

The Facebook Oversight Board is set to decide on whether former US president Donald Trump can return to Facebook and Instagram.
The company removed Trump's accounts in January following the riot at the US Capitol by Trump supporters fueled by the former president's false (虛假的；偽造的) claims of a stolen election.

Syria Reports Israeli Missile Strikes

Syria's state media says Israeli missiles have struck locations in northwestern towns, killing one person and wounding (使受傷) six.
The reports said a civilian plastic warehouse was among the locations struck. Wednesday's strikes were the first Israeli attack on Syria since a missile fired by Damascus struck deep inside Israel two weeks ago.
Syrian air defense units reportedly responded to the missile attacks, but no further details were provided.
Israel has launched hundreds of strikes against Iran-linked military targets in Syria over the years but rarely acknowledges or discusses such operations.
Eritrea President Arrives in Sudan for Talks

Eritrea's president has arrived in Khartoum for talks with Sudanese officials amid tensions over a longtime border dispute (爭執，糾紛) between Sudan and Ethiopia.
President Isaias Afwerki landed at Khartoum's international airport and was received by Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan, head of Sudan's ruling sovereign council.
The two-day visit starting Tuesday comes after Sudan in February accused a third party of siding with Ethiopia in its border disagreement with Sudan.
It was likely referring to Eritrea, which has deployed troops to the Tigray region to fight alongside Ethiopian federal forces in the conflict there.
Eritrea responded by assuring Khartoum it was not part of the dispute between Sudan and Ethiopia.
