The Tai-Ex opened up 38-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 17,032 on turnover of $5.6-billion N-T.
The Tai-Ex continued to gain ground on Thursday, but remained just below the 17,000-point mark, as other regional markets ended the day mixed on cautious (謹慎的) optimism that upcoming company earnings reports will show some recovery from the damage of the coronavirus pandemic.
Control Yuan Orders Corrective Measures over Forced Labor on DWF Boats

The Control Yuan is ordering several government entities to take corrective measures due to the their failure to address the issue of forced labor on the island's distant water fishing fleets.
The order comes after the U-S listed fish caught by vessels bearing the Taiwanese flag as products of forced labor in September of last year.
The report stated that "crews on Taiwan-flagged vessels face confiscation (沒收) of documents, long days with little rest, physical and verbal abuse, and lack of payment."
According to the Control Yuan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labor and the Fisheries Agency have been aware of forced labor on distant water fishing fleets since 2019, but failed to take any concrete measures to address the issue.
The government watchdog is also calling for the Fisheries Agency to assign more personnel to conduct inspections, and for the agency and the Ministry of Labor to educate those working in the fisheries industry on human rights.
Maldives Blast Injures Parliament Speaker

Police say the Maldives' first democratically elected president and current Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has been injured in a blast near his home.
They said they were investigating and urged people to avoid the area.
Officials say Nasheed's injuries were not life-threatening.
Neighboring India's external affairs minister described the blast as an attack on Nasheed.
In 2008, Nasheed became the first democratically elected leader of the archipelago nation after a 30-year autocratic (獨裁的、獨裁者的) rule.
He has championed global efforts to fight climate change, and has also been an outspoken critic of religious extremism.
US Biden Visits Louisiana to Sell Infrastructure Plan

Russia Approves Sputnik Light Vaccine

Russian authorities have given regulatory approval to a single-dose version of the country's Sputnik V vaccine.
The health minister said the move could accelerate the process of achieving herd immunity against the coronavirus.

amed Sputnik Light, the new version is identical to the first dose of the two-dose Sputnik V and has yet to complete the advanced testing needed to ensure its safety and effectiveness.
Official records show that Russia started human trials of Sputnik Light in January, and the studies are still ongoing.
The chief executive of the investment fund that bankrolls (提供資金) the shots said Sputnik V will remain ``the main source of vaccination in Russia,'' while Sputnik Light will be exported.
