Government Approves Emergency use of Moderna Coronavirus Vaccine

Health Minister Chen Shih-chung says the government has now granted authorization for emergency use of the Moderna coronavirus vaccine.
According to Chen, emergency authorization was issued on April 22 by the Food and Drug Administration for the vaccine.
The first batch of Moderna's vaccine is expected to be delivered later this month.
The health minister says he's currently unable to give a precise (精確的) date for its delivery, but is estimating it will arrive before the end of May.
Taiwan has signed contracts to purchase 5.05-million doses of the Moderna vaccine.
One Held and Three Bailed in Cockroach Attack Case

The Taipei District Court has released three of the suspects involved in the release of live cockroaches in a Taipei restaurant earlier this week.
The three suspects have been released on 50,000 N-T bail.
However, one other suspect has been ordered to remain in detention due to concerns that he is flight risk and could attempt to collude (串通) with others to falsify evidence in the case.
Police arrested the suspects on Tuesday following Monday evening's cockroach attack at the G House restaurant.
Interior Minister Hsu Kuo-yung says the suspects could be charged with coercion (強迫), offences against personal liberty and organized crime.
NGOS Urge UN Arms Embargo Against Myanmar

More than 200 global organizations urged the U.N. Security Council to impose an arms embargo (禁運) on Myanmar.
The statement by the non-governmental organizations says the military ``has demonstrated a callous disregard for human life'' since their Feb. 1-st coup, killing at least 769 people including 51 children as young as 6 years old and
detaining several thousand activists, journalists, civil servants and politicians.
It says hundreds of others have disappeared.
The organizations urged the United Kingdom, the Security Council nation in charge of drafting resolutions on Myanmar, ``to begin negotiations on a resolution authorizing an arms embargo as soon as possible.''
Chinese Rocekt Part to Enter Earth Orbit

US Blinken Visiting Ukraine

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has arrived for a one-day visit in Ukraine.
The top American diplomat is to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy today.
The Ukrainian leader has said he wants to hear strong signals from the United States supporting Ukraine's desire to join the NATO military alliance (聯盟).
Ukraine is also expected to push for more military aid from the U.S. amid rising hostilities from Russia-backed separatist rebels in the east of the country.
