The Tai-Ex opened down 98-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 17,137 on turnover of $9.8-billion N-T.
The Tai-Ex lost ground on Monday, as investors opted to lock in gains in the electronics sector, and the main board fell into consolidation mode.
Market watchers say buying rotated to non-tech stocks in the raw material industry on the back of optimism (樂觀) toward a global recovery in demand, while the financial sector also attracted bargain hunting, which prevented the broader market from falling further.
Large Numbers of Over 65s Seeking Coronavirus Vaccine Shot

The government says hospitals administering AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccines are seeing an increase in the number of people seeking the shot after the government opened up its free inoculation program to the over 65s.
Several hospitals have reported long lines of older people looking to get the shots.
While some hospitals say they're now planning to add more clinics to administer (給予；施用；施行) the vaccines due to the higher than expected demand.
The government opened the program to the over 65s on Monday.
According to the Central Epidemic Command Center, over 91,000 people have now received the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
UN Finds Evidence of IS Genocide Against Yazidi

The head of a U.N. team investigating atrocities in Iraq says it has found ``clear and compelling evidence'' that Islamic State extremists committed genocide against the Yazidi minority in 2014.
Karem Khan also says the militant group successfully developed chemical weapons and used mustard gas.
Khan told the U.N. Security Council today that the team also concluded war crimes were committed by the IS group against predominantly (佔絕大多數地) Shiite unarmed cadets and personnel from the Tikrit Air Academy.
Khan says an Islamic State video released in July 2015 showing the cadets' killings ``constitutes a direct and public incitement to commit genocide against Shia Muslims.'
US FDA Authorizes Pfizer Vaccine for Teens

The US Food and Drug Administration has authorized the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine for use in children ages twelve to fifteen.

Qatar Emir Visits Saudi Arabia

Qatar's ruling emir is visiting Saudi Arabia for the first time since signing a declaration with the kingdom and other Arab Gulf states to end an embargo.
Qatar and Saudi media say Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was greeted at the airport by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the Red Sea city of Jiddah.
The meeting highlights how ties are improving since Saudi Arabia ended a more than three-year-long embargo of the tiny energy-rich country in January.
Meanwhile, Turkey's foreign minister is traveling to Saudi Arabia for a two-day visit as Turkey seeks to mend (修理；修補；縫補) ties with the kingdom that hit an all-time low over the 2018 killing in Istanbul of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
The visit is the first by a high-level Turkish official since the killing of Khashoggi by Saudi agents inside the kingdom's consulate.
