Johnny Chiang Calling On President Tsai To Allow Counties To Purchase

The KMT Chairman is calling on President Tsai to allow counties to purchase vaccines.
KMT Chairman Johnny Chiang, along with the magistrates of Nantou, Hualien, Yunlin, and Taitung counties, has released an open letter calling on President Tsai Ing-wen to authorize counties to purchase vaccines.
Chairman Chiang says, in the same way that Tsai granted authorization to TSMC, the Yongling Foundation, and the Tzu Chi Foundation in recent days through an application process, counties should be allowed to do the same.
Chiang and the county magistrates say they have also followed the same application plan, which was released by the Central Epidemic Command Center in recent days, but have not received a response.
They say each county is willing to do its best to purchase its own vaccines, to reach the collective (集體) immunization goal as quickly as possible.

1 More Student Tests Positive For COVID-19

The MOE says one more student has tested positive.
According to Ministry of Education statistics, a total of 664 students from all school levels have tested positive for COVID-19 since April 20th.
It's an increase of 1 from yesterday, and the smallest increase during the epidemic so far.
215 of these cases have been from universities, 107 from senior high schools, 105 from junior high, 167 from elementary, and 70 from kindergarten.
654 of these cases have been domestic, and 10 have been imported (外來的，進口的).

Illegal Meat Purchases Increase in First 6 Months

Online purchases of illegal meat from abroad via express delivery increased between January and June.
The African Swine Flu Central Emergy Operation Center said this is despite a decrease in the number of travellers bringing prohibited (被禁止) meat into the country.
The primary sources of the meat were China, Thailand, Japan and Hong Kong.
The Council of Agriculture has requested all relevant government units work closely to prevent smuggling operations.
And it asked Customs and Chunghwa Post to strengthen their inspections of express packages and international deliveries.

Hong Kong police say they will crack down (打擊) on acts of terrorism, after a man stabbed an officer in the street, before killing himself.

US Leaves Afghanistan Bagram Airport

U.S. officials say the U.S. military has left Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan after nearly 20 years.
The facility was the epicenter of the war to oust the Taliban and hunt down the al Qaida perpetrators of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America.
According to the Associated Press, two officials say the airfield was handed over to the Afghan National Security and Defense Force in its entirety (整體).
They spoke on condition they not be identified because they were not authorized to disclose the handover to the media.
One of the officials also said the U.S. top commander in Afghanistan, ``still retains all the capabilities and authorities to protect the forces. ''
