Cabinet Approves Special Bill for Domestic Arms Procurement

The Cabinet has approved a draft defense bill that will authorize a special allocation (分配) of up to 240-billion N-T for the purchase of indigenous weapons systems over a five-year period.
According to the draft bill, the acquisitions (收購) will include shore-based anti-ship missiles, field and ground-based air defense systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, air-to-ground and surface-to-surface cruise missiles systems, and submarines.
The special budget also includes funding to purchase to new weapon systems for the Coast Guard Administration.
The draft bill will now be submitted to the Legislature for review.
And if passed, the related funding will be allocated annually from between 2022 through 2026.
MOTC Cites Need for Agreement for Yilan HSR Link

The Ministry of Transport says a final decision has yet to be made concerning the terminal station for the planned high-speed rail extension (延伸) line from Taipei to Yilan.
According to Transport Minister Wang Kwo-tsai, a final decision on where the terminal station for the Yilan extension line will be located will only be made after local government officials and lawmaker as well residents of Yilan, have reached a consenus on the issue.
Yilan County Commissioner Lin Zi-miao currently supports the idea of locating the high-speed rail station near the Yilan County Government building.
However, other are voicing support for the station to be located near Jiao-Xi Township.
Haiti PM Responds to Moise Killing Investigation

The office of Haiti Prime Minister Ariel Henry has issued its first public statement about evidence authorities say they have of phone calls between him and a key suspect in the presidential assassination.
The office says Henry received countless calls from people concerned for his safety, and says it is unable to identify all those who called him or determine (判斷) the nature of the conversations.
Former Port-au-Prince chief prosecutor Bed-Ford Claude, whom Henry fired this week, invited the prime minister to meet with him to talk about two calls between him and a suspect that took place just hours after President Jovenel Moise was killed.

Obama Endorses Trudeau in Canada Election

Former US President Barack Obama is endorsing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the Canadian election.
Obama tweeted Thursday that he was proud to work with Trudeau and described him as an effective leader who has strong democratic values.
It is a rare endorsement of a candidate in a Canadian election by a former American president but the second time Obama has done it.
Obama's endorsement (支持) helped Trudeau with progressives in 2019.
Trudeau is in a tough re-election fight with his Conservative rival ahead of Monday's parliamentary elections.
