 Tai-Ex opening

發佈於 2021-10-04 10:26:02

The Tai-Ex opened up 29-points this morning from Friday's close, at 16,600 on turnover of 3.8-billion N-T.

The market moved sharply lower Friday as investors reacted to plunges on U-S markets and rushed to cut their holdings in large cap stocks.

Analysts say the bellwether electronics sector came under heavy pressure amid concerns over rising U-S 10-year treasury yields, which made tech stocks look more expensive, and raw material stocks also fell as investors opted to pocket early gains.

US Urging Beijing to Cease Provocation

發佈於 2021-10-04 10:26:02

U-S State Department spokesman Ned Price is calling on Beijing to cease its "provocative" pressure on Taiwan - stressing that ongoing military actions are destabilizing and risk leading to "miscalculations."

Price is also reiterating Washington's commitment to Taiwan saying ties are "rock solid" and that such relations "contribute to the maintenance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and within the region."

The statement comes after nearly 100 Chinese aircraft made incursions into Taiwan's air defense identification zone over the past several days.

The latest incursions came as Beijing was celebrating the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

President Tsai Ing-wen says her administration will continue to protect the free creative environment here in Taiwan and provide resources to help local television dramas make it to the international stage.

Tsai made the pledge following the annual Golden Bell Awards, which honors the best programs and individuals in the TV entertainment industry over the past year.

And writing on her Facebook page, Tsai gave a special mention to the fantasy comedy-drama "The Magician on the Skywalk," which was the biggest winner of this year's awards.

Tsai says the show is one of many that were given financial support from the Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program to support local TV shows.

It left flooding and other damage and forced some to evacuate their homes.

The neighboring United Arab Emirates also warned those on its eastern reaches to be prepared for the storm.

Vatican Swiss Guards Refuse Vaccine and Leave Corps

發佈於 2021-10-04 10:26:03

Three Vatican Swiss Guards who refused to be vaccinated against COVID-19 upon Holy See orders have left the storied corps to return to Switzerland.

A Swiss Guard official says all Swiss Guards were asked to be vaccinated ``to protect their health and that of the others they come into contact with as part of their service.``

He said three guards who decided not to adhere to that request have voluntarily left the corps.

Three other guardsmen are temporarily suspended from duty while they await vaccination.

Pope Francis, who is vaccinated, has stressed the altruistic and health value of vaccination during the pandemic.
