Tai-Ex opening

發佈於 2021-10-06 10:43:02

The Tai-Ex opened up 27-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 16,488 on turnover of 4.2-billion N-T.

The market gained ground on Tuesday as investors opted to return to the trading floor following a plunge in U-S markets overnight.

Bargain hunters stepped-in following early loses and were largely (大部分) focused on stocks in the shipping, petrochemical and steel industries, which have been hit hard in recent sessions.

While select tech stocks also attracted buying to move the market higher by the end of the session.

Tsai Talks Tough Amid Chinese Incursions

發佈於 2021-10-06 10:43:02

President Tsai Ing-wen says Taiwan will do whatever it takes to defend itself if its democracy is threatened.

Tsai says Beijing has never abandoned its ambitions toward Taiwan, as is exemplified (例證) by its years of double-digit investment in its military and expansionist (擴張主義者) behaviors across the Taiwan Strait and in the surrounding maritime area.

However, she's stressing that despite increased Chinese military activity in the Taiwan Strait, and the now almost daily intrusions into Taiwan's air defense identification zone, the people of Taiwan have made it clear that "democracy is non-negotiable."

The comments come as China has been stepping up its incursions into Taiwan's air defense identification zone in recent days.

The National Day Organizing Committee says members of Taiwan's Tokyo Olympic team will be taking part in this Sunday's Double Ten parade outside the Presidential Office.

The parade will also feature a military flyover that will include two large R-O-C national flags carried by Chinook helicopters.

According to the committee, the singing of the national anthem this year will be led by the Hakka Children's Choir.

And the choir will be joined by firefighter Kyle Liu, police officer Yang Yu-chen, nurses Shih Yi-chun and Chen Yun-zhen, Olympic bronze medalist Lo Chia-ling, and C-D-C head Philip Luo.

The National Day Organizing Committee says those six special guests will be representing the "heroes of Taiwan's society."

This year's National Day gala is being hosted by Hsinchu City.

While the National Day fireworks display is taking place in Kaohsiung.

 Nobel Prize in Physics Awarded

發佈於 2021-10-06 10:43:03

Three scientists have won the Nobel Prize for physics for work that found order in seeming disorder.

They helped to explain and predict complex forces of nature, including expanding our understanding of climate change.

Syukuro Manabe and Klaus Hasselmann were cited for their work in ``the physical modeling of Earth's climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting (預測) global warming.''

The second half of the prize went to Giorgio Parisi for explaining disorder in physical systems ranging from those as small as the insides of atoms to the planet-sized.

All three work on what are known as ``complex systems.''
