US Defense Secretary Warns in Chinese Military Flights

發佈於 2021-12-06 10:50:02

U-S Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin says Chinese military flights near Taiwan look like "rehearsals," but is stopping short of indicating that he expects Beijing actually to carry out such operations.

Speaking during a keynote discussion with Fox News at the Reagan National Defense Forum, Austin said he didn't want to speculate, but "certainly, it looks like them exploring what their true capabilities are."

Austin said the Biden administration is looking to bolster (加固、援助) deterrence against Chinese aggression over Taiwan, but any such action is not aimed at "changing the status quo in the region."

Austin's comments come a day after U-S Secretary of State Antony Blinken told Reuters that any move by China to invade Taiwan would be "potentially disastrous."

Speaking to reporters, Zhang slammed the organizers for failing to take proper safety measures into consideration and said further such events have now been suspended.

There were no guardrails at the venue, and the Mercedes Benz hit the spectators near the start line.

Gambia's President Adama Barrow has secured his re-election with a comfortable margin over his opposition in a vote.

Barrow won about 53% of the vote, according to results of the Dec. 4 election.
