CECC Extends Level 2 Coronavirus Alert

The government says the current level 2 coronavirus alert will be extended until December 27.
The decision to extend the alert means the Central Epidemic Command Center will not be adjusting face mask mandates (命令) and other disease prevention regulations for at least another two weeks.
People are still required to wear face masks while outside of their homes, unless they are doing certain things, such as eating or exercising.
The level 2 alert has been in place since July 27 after a month of reporting fewer than 100 domestic cases per day.
Health Minister Chen Shih-chung has said he hopes to lower the current coronavirus alert level after the Lunar New Year holiday.
Intel CEO Arrives in Taiwan

Intel C-E-O Pat Gelsinger has arrived in Taiwan for talks concerning semiconductor manufacturing (半導體製造).
Gelsinger arrived at Taoyuan International Airport late last night on a private jet and took a bus directly to his hotel.
Reports say the Intel C-E-O will be holding talks with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing executives.
T-S-M-C is refusing comment on those talks.
However, it's been reported that Gelsinger is seeking ties between his company and T-S-M-C, as the U-S semiconductor chip manufacturer looks to combine (結合) parts of processors made by T-S-M-C with Intel products to produce more competitive computer components (電腦零件).
Indonesia US Secretary of State Blinken visit

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is in Indonesia as part of a visit aimed at strengthening ties with the Southeast Asian region as a whole.
Its Blinken's first trip to Southeast Asia since U.S. President Joe Biden took office in January.
Blinken has already met with Indonesian President Joko Widodo... a state department spokesman says discussions between Blinken and Widodo included issues such as human rights, the pandemic, and the climate crisis.
Blinken is set to deliver speech on U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy later today in Jakarta... before flying to Malaysia and Thailand for meetings later this week.
Putin urges guarantees on Ukraine in call with Johnson

Russian President Vladimir Putin has told British Prime Minister Boris Johnson that Moscow will insist on Western guarantees (保證) precluding (排除) NATO's expansion (擴張) to Ukraine.
A recent Russian troop buildup (軍隊聚集) near Ukraine has drawn Ukrainian and Western fears of an invasion (入侵).
U.S. President Joe Biden last week warned Putin of "severe consequences'' if Moscow attacks its neighbor.
Putin has denied plans of launching an attack, but pressed for Western guarantees precluding NATO's expansion to Ukraine.
In Monday's call with Johnson, Putin reaffirmed Moscow's concern about the "development of Ukraine's territory (領土)'' by NATO's members, saying that it "poses a direct threat to Russia's security.''
Putin said Russia will soon submit a draft document outlining (列出大綱) the demands.
No Punishment for Errant Drone Strike

No US military personnel will be disciplined for an errant (錯誤的) drone strike that killed 10 civilians in August.
Top US military leaders initially (開始時) defended the operation as a "righteous strike," later calling it a "tragic mistake."
US Correspondent Rachel Silverman has more.
