The Tai-Ex opened marginally down this morning from yesterday's close, at 17,592 on turnover of 2.7-billion N-T.
The market fell by more than 160-points on Tuesday, as selling was sparked by a plunge (暴跌) on Wall Street overnight ahead of a two-day Federal Reserve policymaking meeting.
And analysts say while the high tech sector was negatively affected by weakness of its counterpart on U-S markets, old economy stocks also faced downward pressure, led by the shipping sector, throughout the trading day.
Visiting Intel Boss Talks-Up Taiwan Investment

Intel C-E-O Pat Gelsinger is lauding (讚美) Taiwan's importance to the global semiconductor industry and says his company plans to invest in what he's describing as the island's "incredible ecosystem."
The statement comes as Gelsinger is visiting Taiwan this week.
The Intel boss is reportedly here to meet with top executives from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, but T-S-M-C is refusing comment on those reports.
Speaking in a pre-recorded video explaining the reasons behind his trip, Gelsinger said Intel is looking forward to having a strong presence in Taiwan, because that "partnership is critically important to his company, the tech industry and the world."
Police Nab Suspects in ATM Heist

Police in New Taipei have arrested three suspects wanted in connection with an armed robbery in the city's Wu-Gu District.
The robbery took place at a supermarket when security staff were transferring money from a cash transport vehicle to an ATM.
The three suspects were all armed and got away with more than 1.2-million N-T.
They changed vehicles shortly after fleeing (逃跑) the scene of the robbery.
But police managed to trace them by reviewing video surveillance footage and detained them at an intersection in the San-Xia District.
No shots were fired either during the robbery itself or during the arrest of the suspects.

Colombia Investigating Explosions

Colombian police are investigating two explosions that occurred on Tuesday in the border city of Cucuta and killed two policemen near the city's airport.
The country's defense minister says the blasts were caused by ``terrorist'' groups that operate in the city, which is located on the border with Venezuela.
Though the explosions took place near the airport's runway, the passenger terminal was not affected.
But flights were suspended and passengers were evacuated (疏散) from the building.
Authorities offered a reward of roughly $25-thousand US dollars for information about the attack.
Mali Military Leaves Timbuktu

The French military says that its forces have left the northern Malian city of Timbuktu.
The move is a part of a troop drawdown (縮編) in the Sahel region of Africa, where France was once the colonial power.
The departure from Timbuktu late Tuesday comes nearly nine years after French forces led a military intervention to drive Islamic extremists from power.
Some residents fear that the French departure will now pave the way for those militants to return.
However, the French military says there are nearly 2,200 U.N. peacekeepers there as well as a strong Malian army presence.
