Tai-Ex opening

The Tai-Ex opened up 58-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 17,719 on turnover of 6.3-billion N-T.
The market gained ground on Wednesday after bouncing back from a slump a session earlier, as investors opted to ignore the losses seen on Wall Street overnight.
However, turnover for the session slumped to a low of 247-billion N-T.
And analysts the marked decline in turnover from the previous session was due to investor hesitancy (猶豫) ahead of the outcome of a two-day policymaking meeting of the U-S Federal Reserve.
Taiwan Embassy Staff in Nicaragua Given Two Weeks to Leave

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says staff at Taiwan's embassy and technical mission in Nicaragua have been given two weeks to leave the country.
According to ministry spokeswoman Joanne Ou, the request for departure was made during negotiations between the two sides following Managua's decision to sever (斷) ties with Taiwan in favor of China last Friday.
The government here has also given staff of the Nicaraguan embassy in Taipei two weeks to leave.
The foreign ministry spokeswoman says Taiwan's embassy in Managua is now preparing to close, and the staff members and their families will be leaving the country in different batches.
Cabinet to Review New China Tech Bill

The Cabinet is slated to review a bill aimed at restricting local tech companies from selling off their subsidiaries (子公司) or other assets in China.
The bill comes as the government is taking steps to further block cross-strait deals that involve sensitive technology, and that includes semiconductor related tech.
The bill is being submitted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
If passed, it will require Taiwanese companies to first seek approval from regulators if they plan to sell or dispose of any of their assets, plants or subsidiaries in China to Chinese companies.
Current regulations only require local companies to notify authorities of such transactions.
Syria Reports Israeli Rocket Attack

Syria's military says Israeli rockets have hit army posts in the country's south, killing one soldier and causing material damage.
State media quotes an unidentified military official as saying that rockets fired from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights early today activated Syrian air defenses and that most of the incoming missiles were intercepted (截獲、攔截).
But the official says one Syrian soldier was killed and there was damage to the area.
The official didn't specify where the missiles hit in southern Syria.

NZ Honors Mosque Shooting Heroes

Two Muslim worshippers who at different times charged toward a gunman to try and stop his massacre have each been awarded New Zealand's highest honor for civilian bravery.
Both men are credited with helping save others in the 2019 attack at two Christchurch mosques in which 51 people were killed.
One of the men awarded the New Zealand Cross, Dr. Naeem Rashid, was himself killed when he tried to tackle (抓住、撲向) the gunman.
The other recipient, Abdul Aziz, survived after dodging bullets and chasing the gunman away.
Eight more people were also given other bravery awards for their roles in helping people caught up in the shootings.
