Tai-Ex opening

The Tai-Ex opened flat this morning from Friday's close, at 17,812 on turnover of 2.5-billion N-T.
The market lost ground on Friday, joining other regional indexes where shares slumped after a retreat on Wall Street overnight led by tech companies.
Market watchers say the declines came as investors are continuing weighing the implications (影響) of higher interest rates, surging coronavirus cases and tensions between Beijing and Washington.
Site for Yilan HSR Station Finalized

Transport Minister Wang Kwo-tsai says his office has now finalized (敲定) the location of the planned high speed rail station in Yilan.
According to Wang, the location is near the county government complex, and work on the extension line from Taipei could begin as early as 2025.
The transport ministry first began evaluating extending the network from Nangang Station to Yilan in October of 2019.
Four proposals for the station's location were initially made.
But the transport minister has now opeted to go with a fifth proposal and the stations will be built 350 meters south of the Yilan County Hall.
French Delegation Leaves Taiwan

A group of French parliamentarians have left Taiwan following a five-day visit.
The six-member delegation was led by France-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group head Francois de Rugy.
It held talks with top government officials during its visit, including President Tsai Ing-wen, Premier Su Tseng-chang and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu.
Members of the delegation expressed their support for Taiwan in the face of growing pressure from China during their stay and also stressed the importance of maintain (維持) the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.
The six French parliamentarians left Taiwan on a EVA Airways flight at 11:50 last night.

Mexico Pedestrian Bridge Collapse

Officials in southern Mexico say a pedestrian suspension bridge has collapsed, leaving 23 people injured.
Oaxaca State authorities say people from the town of Santos Reyes Nopala were walking over the bridge Sunday to get to a party when the structure (結構) failed.
The injured included 12 adults and 11 children.
Japanese Billionaire Departs ISS

A Japanese billionaire has departed the International Space Station and is headed back to Earth, wrapping up the first visit by self-paying space tourists to the orbiting outpost in more than a decade.
Fashion tycoon Yusaku Maezawa, his producer and Russian cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin boarded the Russian Soyuz spacecraft, which undocked from the station at Sunday.
They are set to land in the steppes of Kazakhstan today about 150 kilometers southeast of the city of Zhezkazgan.
The 46-year-old Maezawa has said he could not disclose (透露) the cost of the trip.
But when asked about reports claiming that he paid over $80 million for the 12-day mission, Maezawa admitted that he paid ``pretty much'' that amount.
