The Tai-Ex opened up 28-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 17,855 on turnover of 3.6-billion N-T.
The market closed slightly higher, but on thin turnover Wednesday as investors shifted to the sell side to lock in early gains despite (雖然、儘管) a rally on Wall Street overnight.
Market watchers say the bellwether electronics sector drove the broader market higher, but the shipping and steel sectors faced downward pressure, which limited the trading day's gains.
KMT Blast DPP Over Budget Bill Committee Bypasses

Lawmakers remain at loggerheads over the central government's 2022 budget.
The D-P-P earlier this week opted to bypass (省略、繞過) a series of committee reviews and instead forwarded the budget to a second reading in the Legislature.
K-M-T lawmaker Fei Hong-tai says such a situation is unprecedented in Taiwan, as no one has ever before "dared to deprive lawmakers of their right to review the government's budget plans."
While New Power Party lawmaker Chen Jiao-hua says there was no legitimate reason for the D-P-P to skip the committee review process as the term of the current Legislature can be extended.
The D-P-P is denying any legislative wrongdoing, insisting the party have no choice, as the delayed bill is required by the Budget Act to clear the Legislature before the end of the calendar year.
Strongest Cold Air Mass of this Winter to Arrive

The Central Weather Bureau says the strongest cold air mass of this winter season is expected to begin affecting (影響) the island on Saturday evening.
According to the bureau's forecast center, the cold front will push the mercury down to around 8-degrees in the north and Sunday and Monday.
Mountainous areas in northern Taiwan higher than 2,000 meters are also expected to see snowfall.
The continental cold air mass is expected to have weakened by Wednesday.
China Orders Lockdown in XiAn

China has ordered the lockdown of as many as 13 million people in neighborhoods and workplaces in the northern city of Xi'an following a spike in coronavirus cases.
State media say city officials ordered all residents to stay home unless they have a pressing (緊迫、迫切) reason to go out and suspended all transport to and from the city apart from special cases.
One person from each household will be permitted out every two days to buy household necessities.
Xi'an today reported another 63 locally transmitted cases over the previous 24 hours, pushing the city's total to at least 211 over the past week.
US Approves COVID19 Antiviral Drug

The US Food and Drug Administration has approved the first antiviral pill for the treatment of at-risk Covid-19 patients.

Israel Shipwreck with Artifacts Found

The Israel Antiquities Authority says it's discovered remnants (殘餘物、遺物) of two shipwrecks off the Mediterranean coast, with a sunken trove of silver and bronze coins and Roman and medieval artifacts.
Archaeologists say the finds made near the ancient city of Caesarea date to the Roman and Mamluk periods, around 1,700 and 600 years ago.
They were found during an underwater survey conducted by the authority's Marine Archaeology Unit in the past two months.
Experts say the Roman ship is believed to have originally hailed from Italy, based on the style of some of the artifacts.
