CWB Warning Cold Front to Push Mercury Down Next Week

The Central Weather Bureau says a continental cold air mass approaching Taiwan is expected to push overnight temperatures in the north down to 13-degrees tomorrow.
Temperatures are also forecast to fall further from Sunday through next Tuesday, with forecasters warning that some areas could see lows of 10-degrees.
Increased moisture during it also is set to bring rainfall, as well as the possibilty of snow in mountainous areas above 3,000 meters.
The cold front will weaken between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Temperatures are then forecast to rebound of highs of between 22 and 23-degrees in the north and between 24 and 28-degrees in the center and south.
FM Defends Losing Diplomatic Allies

Foreign Minister Joseph Wu is defending the government's handling of diplomatic ties.
He says deepening unofficial ties with like-minded countries (理念相同的國家) is just as important as maintaining diplomatic relations.
The statement comes amid call for his resignation following the loss of a record number of allies.
Taiwan has lost eight diplomatic allies since President Tsai Ing-wen took office in 2016.
Six of those losses have occured sine Wu was appointed foreign minister in February of 2018.
Eggs to be Stamped with Traceability Code from 2022

The Council of Agriculture says eggs will be required to carry a traceability code (噴印溯源代碼) on their shell beginning next year.
According to the agriculture officials, the move is aimed at helping consumers more easily identify the source of the eggs and how the hens producing the eggs are farmed (母雞是如何飼養的).
This new measure will apply to all washed eggs (洗選蛋) sold by convenience stores, supermarkets, hypermarkets, wholesale retailers and e-commerce platforms.
Each egg will be stamped with a two-line traceability code denoting the housing system where the egg was laid, its packaging date and where it was farmed.
And from January 1, consumers will be able to choose between organic, free range (土雞) or barn eggs where hens are allowed to move around more freely.
A dedicated website has been established allowing consumers to learn where the eggs they purchase originated (原產地) and how the hens are farmed.
Pingtung Breaks Ground on King Boat Cultural Museum

The Pingtung County Government has broken ground on the King Boat cultural museum.
When completed, the museum will be the first here in Taiwan to focus on a 300-year-old plague-expelling religious ritual involving specially built vessels.
The Museum is being built at site located next to the Dong-Gang Police Station and is scheduled to open in 2024.
According to Pingtung County magistrate Pan Meng-an, the new museum will be home to a life-size King Boat that will allow visitors to appreciate the exquisite craftsmanship (精雕細琢的) of the shipbuilders.

South Korea said Friday it will grant a special pardon to former President Park Geun-hye (朴槿惠), who is serving a lengthy (很長的) prison term for bribery and other crimes.
The Justice Ministry saysPark's pardon is aimed at overcoming national divisions and promoting unity in the face of difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Park was arrested and sent to prison in 2017, after being removed from office (將她撤職) following a corruption scandal that prompted (促成) months of massive street protests.
Her ouster marked a stunning fall from grace (失寵) for the country's first female president and conservative icon (保守派象徵).
In January, South Korea's Supreme Court upheld her 20-year prison term.
Park is a daughter of late authoritarian President Park Chung-hee (朴正熙). She was elected in late 2012 on a wave of support from conservatives who celebrate her father as a hero.
She was impeached by lawmakers in December 2016, and formally removed in March 2017, after the the Constitutional Court upheld the impeachment (彈劾).
