Tai-Ex opening

The Tai-Ex opened up 180-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 16,600, on turnover of $6.1-billion N-T.
The Tai-Ex gained ground on Thursday after tumbling the previous session, with the bellwether electronics sector leading the rebound, following reports of second-quarterly net profits from United Microelectronics and MediaTek.
However, market watchers says turnover remained moderate despite the gains, as investors remain cautious ahead of next week's policymaking meeting of the U-S Federal Reserve, which has already kicked off an interest rate hike to tackle (處理) inflation.
Government Finalizes New Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccine Deal

The government has finalized a deal to purchase some 4-million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine.
The deal consists of 1.8-million adult doses for and 2.2 million doses for children aged between 5 and 11.
The Food and Drug Administration has now authorized the vaccine for children in that age bracket (年齡段).
It's recommending that children aged between 5 and 11 receive two doses of the vaccine at least 21 days apart.
However, health minister Chen Shih-chung says the Central Epidemic Command Center will be implementing an interval of at least 12 weeks, in line with the Moderna vaccine's use in children aged from 6 to 11.
The health minister says the first shipment of the newly purchased Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine will arrive in Taiwan by mid-May.
The epidemic command center is set to rollout of the Moderna vaccine for children aged from 6 to 11 on May 2.
Turkey President Lands in Saudi Arabia

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has landed in Saudi Arabia as part of his country's latest efforts to build bridges with its key regional rival.
The two-day visit kicked off on Thursday evening.
It's Erdogan's first official trip to the kingdom since Turkey dropped the trial of 26 Saudis suspected of involvement in the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul in October 2018.
The Turkish presidency said talks in Saudi Arabia will focus on ways of increasing cooperation and the sides will exchange views on regional and international issues.
Twitter Reports Rise in Revenue

Twitter is reporting earnings of $513 million for the first quarter days after it agreed to be sold to billionaire Elon Musk.
The social media company said Thursday that revenue rose 16% to $1.2 billion in the three months to March compared with the same period last year.
San Francisco-based Twitter reported an average of 229 million daily active users (活躍用戶) in the quarter.
Musk's $44 billion deal to buy Twitter was announced earlier this week and the deal is expected to close later this year.
