The Tai-Ex opened up 14-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 15,915
on turnover of 1.5-billion N-T.

The market closed higher on Monday following a rally on Wall Street at the
end of last week, but the gains were limited amid lingering (揮之不去)
concerns that market volatility will return because of anticipated interest
rate hikes by the U-S Federal Reserve.

The bellwether electronics sector continued to attract investor interest from
a session earlier on a technical rebound, but the transportation and
financial both sectors fell, limiting the rally on the broader market.

The Central Epidemic Command Center says it is making it easier for people
aged 65 and over to obtain the oral antiviral drug Paxlovid, if they test
positive for the coronavirus and that test result is confirmed by a doctor.

The new policy will go into affect tomorrow.

It means elderly people need only to show a positive rapid test result before
medical personnel can prescribed (配藥) Paxlovid.

According to the epidemic command center, the new policy is being introduced
because some seniors who have tested positive for using a rapid test at home
have had trouble getting a more accurate P-C-R test to confirm the infection
and be eligible for treatment.

Paxlovid is generally considered most effective if taken within the first
five days after the onset of symptoms.

National Security Bureau Director-General Chen Ming-tong says some local
internet celebrities were being paid by the Chinese government to conduct
"cognitive warfare" campaigns here in Taiwan and help Beijing spread
propaganda.

According to Chen, one recent such case was reported in early March following
Russia's invasion of Ukraine and involved a Taiwanese internet celebrity on
TikTok, who claimed that the Chinese government was offering to evacuate
(撤離) Taiwanese nationals.

An investigation later confirmed that the TikToker was not even in Ukraine,
but based in the Chinese city of Hangzhou.

The statements come after it was reported that Beijing has been training and
paying Taiwan-native Youtubers to influence young Taiwanese on media
platforms.

North Korean state media says almost 270-thousand more cases of illness have
been found.

Health officials in North Korea found 269-thousand-510 more people with
feverish symptoms and reported another six deaths, as the country grapples
with an escalating but largely undiagnosed COVID-19 outbreak.

According to the North's anti-virus headquarters, 56 people have died and
more than 1.48 million fell ill amid a rapid spread of fever nationwide since
late April and outside experts believe most of the illnesses to be COVID-19.

After maintaining a widely doubted (受到廣泛質疑) claim for two years that it
had perfectly kept the virus out of its territory, North Korea acknowledged
domestic COVID-19 infections last week, saying that an unspecified number of
people in capital Pyongyang tested positive for the fast-moving omicron
variant.

Vice President Kamala Harris has led a delegation to the United Arab Emirates
to pay respects to the federation's late ruler and meet with the newly
ascended (登上、上位) president.

The delegation of top U.S. officials visiting the capitalAbu Dhabi on Monday
included the secretary of state, defense secretary, CIA director and climate
envoy.

The UAE named Abu Dhabi crown prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan its
new president following the death of his half-brother.

Sheikh Mohammed has served as the country's de facto ruler and shaped the
country's foreign policy since Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan suffered
(遭受) a stroke nearly a decade ago.
