The Tai-Ex opened up 102-points this morning from Friday's close, at 16,368
on turnover of 3.9-billion N-T.

The market moved sharply higher last Friday, gaining nearly 300 points as
investors were buoyed by a rally on Wall Street amid upbeat earnings
forecasts from retailers.

Buying focused on the bellwether electronics sector, but container cargo
shippers also attracted (吸引) investor interest, to push the main board
above the 20-day moving average by the end of the session.

Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je has announced that his administration plans to
complete its campus vaccination drive for children aged between 5 and 11 by
June 3.

According to Ko, that means in-person classes will resume in schools at the
high school level and below from June 6.

All schools in Taipei, as well as in most other cities and counties, have
been holding remote (遠端) classes since May 23 due to the ongoing surge in
coronavirus cases.

The Council of Agriculture says agricultural losses (損失) from the heavy
rains that battered much the island over the past several weeks currently
stand at approximately 15.14-million N-T.

The hardest hit area was Pingtung County, where crop damage is estimated at
4.23-million N-T.

That's followed by Taoyuan with losses of 2.71-million N-T, Taichung with
estimated losses of 2.65-million N-T and Changhua County, where losses are
being estimated at 2.01-million N-T.

Heavy agricultural losses due to the rain are also being reported in Chiayi
and Yunlin counties.

The Central Weather Bureau has reported an average rainfall of 47-centimeters
this month.

US President Joe Biden visited Uvalde, Texas to mourn (哀悼) the students and
teachers killed in a school shooting last week.

Authorities in Nepal say rescuers have narrowed a possible location of a
passenger plane with 22 people on board that is feared to have crashed in the
mountains.

The Twin Otter was on a 20-minute scheduled flight from Pokhara to the
mountain town of Jomsom on Sunday when it lost contact with the airport tower
close to landing.

Army troops and rescue teams were headed to a possible crash site but had to
stop for the night due to bad weather and poor visibility in rugged
(高低不平的,崎嶇的) terrain..

Sri Lanka's prime minister says protesting youth groups will be invited to be
part of governance under political reforms he is proposing to solve the
country's political crisis triggered by an economic collapse.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that under proposed constitutional
reforms, powers of the president will be clipped (剪裁、限制) and those of
Parliament strengthened.

In a statement to the nation, he said that governance will be broad-based
through parliamentary committees where lawmakers, youth and experts will work
together.

Protesters consisting of mainly young people have camped out outside the
president's office for more than 50 days.

They're demanding the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and an
overhaul of a system of governance.
