- 12月16號（星期三）Government Notifies CPTPP Members of Intent to Join
The government has notified (通知) member economies (會員經濟體) of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (跨太平洋夥伴全面進步協定) that Taiwan is seeking to join the regional trade deal.
Taiwan is seeking membership of the 11-nation bloc to cushion the impact of being excluded from the Beijing-backed Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (區域全面經濟夥伴協定), which was formed in November.

The government says Taiwan is currently engaging in informal consultations with CPTPP member economies after notifying them of its desire to join the Japan-led trade bloc.
- 12月17號（星期四）Foreign Chambers Laud Planned ID Numbering Change
Representatives of foreign chambers are praising (讚揚，表揚) the
government's decision to change in the numbering system of Alien Resident
Certificates and Alien Permanent Resident Certificates.
According to European Chamber of Commerce C-E-O Freddie Hoglund, the chamber
has been studying the issue since 2010 and is very happy to finally be seeing
a solution, as it will provide foreign nationals living here in Taiwan
"easier access to e-commerce platforms."

However, Hoglund is cautioning that it could take some time to see if the
"new program is working well."
The National Immigration Agency says the new numbering system will affect
about eight hundred and seventy one thousand (871,000) A-R-C and some twenty thousand (20,000) A-P-R-C holders.
- 12月18號（星期五）Guam Governor to Visit Taiwan for 'Tourism Bubble' Talks
The Governor of Guam, Lourdes Leon Guerrero, is planning to visit Taiwan next
month for talks on the establishment of a 'travel bubble' to help facilitate
the re-opening of the U-S territory's tourism industry.
Media outlets in Guam are citing Guerrero as saying Taiwan's government is
"very anxious" to receive her and that the visit will be encouraging for
economic diversity and the revitalization (獲得新生；復興) of tourism.

She also described her trip to Taiwan as "not being a concern, because of its
effective coronavirus control."
And according to foreign ministry spokesperson Joanne Ou, officials from

- 12月21號（星期一）Al-Jazeera Journalists Targeted by Spyware
A cybersecurity watchdog says dozens of journalists at Al-Jazeera, the Qatari
state-owned media company, have been targeted by advanced spyware.
Citizen Lab says its previous research helped link the attempt to hack 36
journalists' personal phones to the governments of Saudi Arabia and the
United Arab Emirates.

The group traced the malware back to the Israel-based NSO Group, which has
been widely condemned for selling spyware to repressive governments.
Text messages were infecting targeted cellphones without the users needing to
take any action, such as clicking on suspicious (可疑的，引起懷疑的) links.
The coordinated attacks on Al-Jazeera occurred weeks before the normalization
of ties between Israel and the UAE.

- 12月22號（星期二）Cut off: Britain hit with travel bans over new virus strain
Trucks waiting to get out of Britain are backing up for miles and people are
stranded (受困) at airports as many countries impose stringent (嚴格的)
travel restrictions on U.K. flights.
There are serious concerns about a new strain (新品種) of the coronavirus
that authorities say may spread more easily.

A growing number of countries are halting air travel from the U.K., while
France has banned trucks from the country for a period of 48 hours while the
new variant is assessed (評估).
British Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said the strain is "out of
control'' around London and southeastern England.
But experts have urged caution, saying it's not clear if it's more lethal.
There were rising hopes Monday that France would allow traffic to flow again,
if truck drivers take coronavirus tests on arrival.
