Taipei Metro's Safety Issues Taipei city council is urging Taipei Metro to improve its safety measures so as to reduce the incidents of injuries mainly caused by falling. City Councilor Wang Hao quotes data to say that between 2015 and 2018, a total of 1-thousand 562 people sustained injuries at various Taipei MRT stations, with Taipei Metro paying out compensations totaling 28 million NT. Of all those stations, Taipei Main Station saw the biggest number of injuries, at 128, followed by Zhong-xiao Fu-xing's 63 and Xi-men's 54. during the 4-year period. Taipei Metro says most of those incidents happened when passengers fell. But in 160 of the cases, passengers fell because they were pushed by someone else. The company also says that the one place that's most accident-prone (最容易發生意外) is the escalators, so it has reduced the escalators' speed and sent out security personnel to guide passengers during rush hours. Over 2.1 million passengers take Taipei Metro every day. (JL) ---- T*

Rare Megamouth Shark (巨口鯊)Caught Off Hualien Port, Sold as Seafood A rarely seen megamouth shark was caught off Hualien and then sold as seafood. The animal known for its rubbery lips, large head and gigantic (巨大的) mouth as the name implies, was caught by a Taiwanese fishing boat off Hualien Port Monday and brought to the port for scientific research before being sold. The Coast Guard says the 3.5-meter, 612-kilogram shark was already dead when it was taken from the water. The megamouth shark is a filter-feeder that swims with its enormous mouth wide open, filtering water for tiny plankton (浮游生物) and jellyfish. The species is rarely spotted by humans. Despite being seldom encountered, the megamouth shark is not protected by Taiwanese regulations, and commercial fishing of the species is allowed. ----
