Premier Su: Tax season maybe pushed back
發佈於 2021-06-09 13:44:04
The deadline (期限) for filing the personal income tax may be pushed back again.
It has already been postponed from the end of May to the end of June, but with the Level 3 coronavirus alert extended to June 28th, some lawmakers are saying that tax season should be prolonged as well.
Premier Su Zhen-chang says he'll ask the Ministry of Finance to look into the issue.
Finance Minister Su Jian-rong said earlier that 4.5 million taxpayers had already filed their tax returns, or some 70-percent of all taxpayers.
Su Jian-rong says if the deadline is pushed back again, it'll be difficult for the national budget to make the necessary allocations and distributions.
But KMT lawmakers say some taxpayers have to file their taxes in-person, and that there won't be enough time to do so, if the deadline is kept at June 30th.

Several universities have said that the autumn semester will begin in mid-September, as originally scheduled for returning students, but it'll be pushed back two weeks for freshmen.

發佈於 2021-06-09 13:44:04
Taipei City is threatening heavy fines (重大的罰款), for any clinics giving vaccines to people not on the priority list.
The threat follows reports of a clinic administering jabs to non-priority members of the public last night.
Deputy Mayor Vivian Huang says clinics are currently only allowed to give vaccines to the top three categories of front-line medical workers.
She adds that the city government is checking up clinics to make sure they are following these rules, and will punish any violators.

On 1st overseas trip, Biden to assure allies and meet Putin
發佈於 2021-06-09 13:44:04
U.S. President Joe Biden is eager to reassert the United States on the world stage as he embarks on the first overseas trip of his term.
He hopes to steady European allies deeply shaken by the former U.S.
president, and push democracy as the only shield to rising forces of authoritarianism (威權主義).
The trip will be much more about messaging than specific actions or deals.
Biden's priority is to convince the world that his administration is not just a fleeting shift in the trajectory of an American foreign policy.
Many allies feared U.S. foreign policy had drifted toward a more transactional outlook, under the previous U.S. president.
Biden departs for the United Kingdom on Wednesday.
Rights Group Says Colombian Police Cause Deaths Of 20 Protesters
發佈於 2021-06-09 13:44:05
An international monitoring group is accusing police officers in Colombia of responsibility for the deaths of 20 people, during civil unrest (內亂) that has continued for weeks.
The number, released today in a report from the Human Rights Watch, is higher than the one acknowledged by authorities.
The organization also accuses police of other violent actions against protesters, including sexual abuse, beatings, and arbitrary detentions.
The report says the organization has credible evidence that police killed at least 16 protesters or bystanders with live ammunition fired from firearms, while three other people died when police used non-lethal weapons, and another died from repeated beatings.
Authorities have been slow to investigate the reports of violence, and as of Saturday, only four people had been indicted in connection with two homicides that occurred during the protests.
Bus With Migrant Workers Collides With Van In India
發佈於 2021-06-09 13:44:05
Police say a bus hit a delivery van on a highway in northern India, killing at least 17 people.
Police say the bus, carrying migrant workers after the lifting of coronavirus restrictions (解除了疫情限制之後), overturned after colliding with the van coming from the opposite direction.
The crash occurred southwest of Lucknow, the Uttar Pradesh state capital.
The migrant workers were on the way to Ahmedabad, a city in western Gujarat state, to resume work with industries reopening after the end of the lockdown restrictions.
Police say the bus passengers complained that the driver was going fast.
More than 110,000 people are killed every year in road accidents across India, according to police.
