Tai-Ex opening

發佈於 2022-07-21 10:21:13

The Tai-Ex opened up 11-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 14,744, on turnover of $2.4-billion N-T.

The Tai-Ex ended marginally higher Wednesday, as early gains eroded following an initial rally, and investors opted to lock in profits from the bellwether electronics sector amid lingering concerns about the U-S Fed's impact market sentiment.

Large tech stocks, in particular those in the semiconductor sector, remained above their previous closing levels, but old economy stocks came under pressure throughout the session, further capping the upturn on the broader market.

The Fisheries Agency says as of June 30, 6,895 foreign crew members have been hired in Taiwan and 59-per cent of them can access the facilities.

And officials are stressing (強調) that the agency aims to raise the facility coverage rate to 90-per cent next year.

The Central Weather Bureau says the current wave of hot weather is likely to continue until the weekend.

The bureau is attributing the current highs of between 37 and 38-degrees being seen in some areas to the influence of a Pacific high-pressure system.

Strong convection (對流) effects in the afternoon brought torrential rain to parts of the north and center yesterday.

Hengshan Township in Hsinchu was the wettest place islandwide - after reporting 14-centimeters of rainfall.

EU Moves Closer to More Sanctions on Russia

發佈於 2022-07-21 10:21:14

The European Union moved closer to imposing more sanctions on Russia after its 27 ambassadors backed a series of measures to ban gold imports and tighten export controls on some high-technology goods.

The Czech Republic, which holds the EU presidency, said ``the new measures will align the EU with G7 partners, reinforce (加強) implementation and close loopholes where necessary.''

If no objections are raised by national capitals by early today, it will be published in the official journal, after which details of the limited package will become available.

The G-7 group of leading industrial nations last month already committed to a gold ban, arguing the Russia has used its gold to back up its currency to circumvent the impact of several rounds of sanctions that nations around the world had already imposed on Moscow for its Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine.
