The Tai-Ex opened up 45-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 45,524 on turnover of 8.7-billion N-T.

The market tumbled on Tuesday as investors continued to rotate funds out of the electronics sector amid worries over valuations (估價).

MOHW expands contaminated cooking oil recall

Health Minister Shih Chung-liang has announced the widening of a recall order for products linked to contaminated cooking oil produced by Central Union Oil.

The latest move means that all processed foods made using the affected oil should have been removed from store shelves by midnight.

It overrides a previous order that only products containing more than 20-per cent of the affected oil needed to be recalled (撤回) and removed from stores.

According to the health ministry, all affected secondary products must now be removed from the market as a precaution and can only return to store shelves after manufacturers provide test results confirming they are safe for human consumption.

US RETALIATORY STR**IKES HIT IRANIAN PORTS AND MILITARY SITES AFTER IRAN **ATTACKS THREE COMMERCIAL VESSELS IN STRAIT OF HORMUZ

The United States has launched retaliatory (報復性) strikes against Iran, hitting port facilities, missile and drone sites, and air defence installations on Tuesday evening — in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

The website Axios reports the American military response far exceeded previous exchanges between the two sides, while Iran's deputy foreign minister has warned Tehran will take decisive measures.

Jagruti Dave in Washington says the conflict's impact on oil prices is a growing concern in the United States, particularly with midterm elections on the horizon.

A Pakistani cargo plane with five crew members is missing after rapidly descending (下降) and losing contact with air traffic controllers.

Pakistan’s airport authority reported the incident late Tuesday off the coast of Karachi.

The Boeing 737 reported a navigation system problem at 9:18 p.m. local time.

Radar data showed it rapidly descending and changing course at about 9:21 p.m. before losing contact about 287 kilometers west of Karachi.

Search-and-rescue operations are underway in the Arabian Sea.

France Le Pen to Run for Presidency

Far-right leader Marine Le Pen says she’ll run for the French presidency next year despite being sentenced to wear a court-ordered electronic monitor for embezzlement.

The decision by the 57-year-old veteran of three presidential races sets up a fourth campaign like no other.

She potentially could be seeking votes while subject to electronic monitoring and a judge’s determination (判定) of how, and for how long, the punishment is

applied.

Le Pen said she will appeal Tuesday's ruling to France’s highest court.
