The Ministry of Digital Affairs says a survey has found that over a fifth (五分之一) of the island's adult population used TikTok or Dou-yin at least once during a three-month period last year.
According to the ministry's 2024 Taiwan Internet Report, 22-percent of adults used the Chinese social media platforms between March and June of last year -- with 44-percent of those engaging with the apps on a daily basis (每天使用).
It also also found that the platforms were far less popular among Taiwanese users than market leaders Facebook and Instagram.
Survey data found that 44-percent of the Taiwanese respondents (有回答的人) said Facebook was their most used social media platform.
While 21-percent of respondents said they preferred Instagram.

Mideast Wars with exchanges of hostages and prisoners

The first Palestinian prisoners have been freed from Israeli custody as the fragile (脆弱的) ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took hold (生根,生效) following 15 months of war.
The release came early on Monday, over seven hours after the first three hostages were released from Gaza.
Palestinians across the devastated territory began making their way home on Sunday, and hundreds of trucks with a surge of humanitarian aid (人道救援物資) began to enter the territory.
Over 46,000 Palestinians have been killed during the war, with more than half of them being women and children.
The next release of hostages and prisoners is due on Saturday, with 33 hostages and nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees (被拘禁者) to be freed over the ceasefire’s 42-day first phase (第一階段).
Talks begin in two weeks on the far more challenging second phase.
US TikTok Ban Halted for Now
發布於 2025-01-20 16:00:13
TikTok says it’s restoring service to users in the United States just hours after the popular video-sharing platform went dark in response to a federal ban (聯邦禁令).
The announcement on X came after President-elect Donald Trump said on Sunday that he planned to pause the ban (暫停禁令) by executive order on his first day in office.
Trump says the order would give TikTok’s China-based parent company more time to find an approved buyer.
Millions of U.S. TikTok users were unable to access the TikTok app and platform starting late Saturday.
But by Sunday afternoon, a message greeted (致意) those who signed on thanking them — and the president-elect — for their support.
