The Ministry of Environment says foreign laborers may be allowed to work for waste treatment and recycling companies (廢棄物處理和回收公司) as early as March.
According to the ministry, its Resource Circulation Administration (資源循環署) plans to hold discussions on foreign workers potentially entering the sector with the Ministry of Labor's Workforce Development Agency, local governments and businesses as early as next week.
The Resource Circulation Administration is estimating that more than 660 businesses could hire over 1,000 foreign workers, if an agreement on the issue is finalized.
Currently, companies in the waste treatment and recycling sectors cannot obtain a Factory Registration Certificate required to apply to hire foreign workers, as they technically do not manufacture goods (製造貨物) or possess a qualifying factory site (合格的工廠處所).
