The Yilan District Prosecutors' Office has filed an appeal against the Yilan District Court's decision to sentence Yilan County Magistrate Lin Zi-miao to 12 1/2 years in prison.
The appeal comes after Lin was found guilty last December of seeking illegal gains through her supervisory role as a public official, money laundering and having unaccounted-for assets as a public official.
The prosecutor's office says it is seeking to have Lin retried on charges related to allegations she gave a tax waiver to a Luodong Township landowner.
The district court determined during the trial there was insufficient evidence to prove Lin had engaged in corruption.
Prosecutors are describing district court's verdict as "flawed" - saying and that the sentences for Lin and 13 other defendants were all too lenient.

Monsoon rains have unleashed flooding in Australia's Queensland that claimed the lives of two people.
The week-long deluge dropped months of rainfall in a few days, devastating small rural towns on the state’s north coast.
Officials say the body of an 82-year-old woman was found in a paddock near the North Queensland town of Ingham on Tuesday.
It followed the death of a 63-year-old woman on Sunday.
The rain drove hundreds from their homes, washed out an important bridge and blocked drinking water supplies to the worst-hit area. meanwhile, heatwaves were recorded elsewhere in Australia, including in Western Australia.
