CDC seeing surge in flu vaccinations after actress Barbie Hsu's death

The Centers for Disease Control says its seeing big demand for flu vaccines following the recent death of entertainer Big S, also known as Barbie Hsu, due to flu-related complications (併發症).
According to the C-D-C, the surge (大增) in demand for flu jabs has resulted in less than 100,000 government-funded flu shots (公費流感疫苗) remaining.
Hsu died of pneumonia on February 2nd after contracting flu while on a trip to Japan with her family during the Lunar New Year holiday.
The C-D-C says after news of her death made headlines, approximately 113,000 government-funded flu shots were administered (施打) on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
Three active military officers indicted for leaking intelligence to China

The High Prosecutors Office (高檢署) Kaohsiung Branch has indicted three active duty military officers (現役軍人) and an alleged accomplice (共犯) on suspicion of leaking military intelligence (情報) to China.
According to the court, they have all been charged with violating the National Security Act, the Classified National Security Information Protection Act, the Anti-Corruption Act and the Money Laundering Control Act.
The three active military officers are suspected of handing over intelligence, including data related to the Han Kuang military exercise, to a man who was believed to have acted as a go-between (中間人) for China.
That man's whereabout (所在) currently remains unknown, but his sister has been detained and indicted in the case.

Philippines Vice President faces impeachment

Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte has been impeached on a range of accusations that include plotting to assassinate (計劃案殺) the president and engaging in large-scale corruption.
The move in the House of Representatives deepens a bitter political rift between Duterte and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who had campaigned (競選) together in 2022 but were elected separately.
Duterte did not comment on her impeachment but she has repeatedly accused Marcos of corruption, weak leadership and attempting to muzzle her (讓她消音) because of speculation she may seek the presidency in 2028.
The impeachment petition now goes to the Senate, which would serve as a tribunal and could ban Duterte from holding public office.
Britain Ancient Scrolls

U.K. scientists say they have made a historic breakthrough by making the first image of the inside of a scroll carbonized by a volcanic eruption 2,000 years ago.
Hundreds of papyrus scrolls were found in the 1750s in the remains of a lavish villa at a Roman town, which along with neighboring Pompeii was destroyed when Mount Vesuvius erupted in A.D. 79.
While the scrolls were preserved, they are too charred and fragile to unroll and attempt to read them.
A competition that offered cash for efforts to decipher them resulted in the breakthrough announced yesterday.
A high-tech scan generated X-ray images, and AI was used to identify ink and then enhance the clarity of the text.
However, little of the text has been deciphered so far.
