Taiwan congratulates Belizean prime minister on winning re-election

Taiwan's government congratulated Belizean Prime Minister John Briceno and the ruling People's United Party (PUP) on their victory in Wednesday's general elections.
The PUP secured 26 out of 31 seats, defeating the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP).
Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed hope for continued strong bilateral ties under Briceno's leadership, emphasizing (強調) shared democratic values.
Taiwan's Ambassador to Belize, Lily Hsu, offered the congratulations of Taiwan's government and its people.
MOFA also highlighted Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (???) concluded a visit to Belize in October 2024 to mark 35 years of diplomatic relations.
Briceno also previously visited Taiwan to attend President Lai Ching-te's (???) inauguration in May 2024.
UN Report on Israeli Use of Sexual Violence in Gaza Strip

United Nations-backed human rights experts have accused Israel of “the systematic use of sexual, reproductive and other gender-based violence” in its war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
The allegations on Thursday came in one of the most extensive (廣闊的) reports of its kind on the issue since Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel ignited the war.
In its report, the commission examined the widespread destruction of Gaza, the use of heavy explosives in civilian areas and Israeli attacks on hospitals and health facilities.
It said all three led to “disproportionate violence against women and children.”
The commission documented a range of violations perpetrated against Palestinian women, men, girls and boys and accused Israeli security forces of rape and sexual violence against Palestinian detainees.
Israel denies any systematic abuse of prisoners and says it takes action when there are violations.
France Alcohol Drink Industry on 200Percent Tariffs

The French wine and spirits industry has reacted with anger at the prospect of a 200% tariff on its exports to the United States — which American President Donald Trump is threatening in a tit-for-tat trade war with the European Union.
France says it doesn't want a trade war but "will react firmly to safeguard (保衛) the interests of its companies in the face of arbitrary measures that violate international law."

UK Lennon Coin

John Lennon is being honored in a specially minted British coin collection to mark the year the Beatles legend and peace advocate would have turned 85.
The Royal Mint says today that the coin features a portrait (肖像) of Lennon that is based on a famous image taken by music industry photographer Bob Gruen in 1974.
It depicts a side profile of Lennon taken on the roof of his penthouse in New York.
Lennon fans and coin collectors will be able to buy the coins from the Royal Mint’s website from Monday.
