The Tai-Ex opened up 13-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 17,754 on turnover of 3.6-billion N-T.
The market moved sharply higher on Wednesday on the back of reports that Moscow is pledging to "drastically reduce" military activity near the Ukrainian cities of Kyiv and Chernihiv - which eased some investors jitters (緊張不安).
The bellwether electronics sector was among the sectors that stood out, led by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing - which pushed the the electronics sector up by 1.25-per cent, while the semiconductor sub-index rose 1.56-per cent.
Government Seeking to End Sale of New Gas-Powered Cars and Scooters by 2040

The government has announced plans to phase out gas-powered vehicles with a goal of ending sales of new gas passenger cars and scooters by 2040.
The policy is part of the government's road map for Taiwan to achieve (達到) net zero emissions by 2050.
Under the proposal, the government aims to increase the market share of new electric passenger cars, which are designed to seat no more than nine persons, to 30-per cent by 2030 and 60-per cent by 2035.
While at the same time, the share of new electric scooters is expected to reach 35-per cent by 2030 and 70-per cent by 2035.
Lawmakers Demand John Peng be Removed from SEF Seat

D-P-P lawmakers are demanding the removal of John Peng from the board of the Straits Exchange Foundation.
The call comes after Peng placed a full-page advertisement in the China Times this week promoting Taiwan's "peaceful unification" with China.
Peng says he took out the advertisement in his capacity as chairman of A-G-C-M-T Creations and is was aimed at letting people know that "peaceful unification and peaceful development will shape the best future of people across the Taiwan Strait."
However, D-P-P lawmaker Lai Rui-long is charging Peng with carrying out cognitive warfare on behalf of China, while lawmaker Chiu Zhi-wei says Peng is unfit (不適任、不適合) to serve on the Straits Exchange Foundation board, as he doesn't represent Taiwan.

Tunisia President Dissolves Parliament

Tunisia's president has dissolved parliament in the latest blow to the North African country's young democracy.
President Kais Saied announced the decision Wednesday after lawmakers led by the opposition Islamist party held a virtual session seeking to annul (廢止) his moves last year to assume sweeping powers.
Among those moves, Saied suspended the activities of parliament, which has not officially convened since July.
Saied argued at the time that the country was facing ``imminent peril (緊迫的危險)'' because of protests and economic crisis, and he has governed the country by decree ever since.
He has promised a referendum on planned political reforms for July 25-th, and new legislative elections on Dec. 17.
