Tai-Ex opening

發佈於 2022-04-26 10:56:13

The Tai-Ex opened up 56-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 16,677
on turnover of 3.9-billion N-T.

The Tai-Ex tumbled more than 400 points on Monday on the back of selling sparked by (觸發) heavy losses on Wall Street at the end of last week amid rising concerns about the U-S Federal Reserve's rate hike cycle.

The decline was led by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, as the bellwether electronics sector saw sell-offs due to rising interest rates that have made tech stocks less attractive.

While selling also spread to old economy stocks, in particular those in the transportation sector.

Culture Minister Lee Yung-te is denying reports that the government is ready to nominate candidates to replace Taiwan Broadcasting System chairwoman Chen Yu-qiu.

Chen resigned last week to take responsibility for Chinese Television System's erroneously (錯誤地) running a news ticker saying that said China was attacking Taiwan.

C-T-S acting general manager Chen Ya-ling also resigned last week following the new ticker incident.

There have been reports that the Ministry of Culture could appoint General Association of Chinese Culture deputy chairman Antonio Chiang or former Apple Daily editor-in-chief Eric Chen to head the Taiwan Broadcasting System.

However, the culture minister is denying those reports.

Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je says registered residents of the city who hold the Senior Citizen Card could in the future also use it to take free rides on trains operated by the Taiwan Railways Administration.

However, speaking at a city council hearing, Ko admitted that a timetable for the additional usage (用法、使用) has not yet been decided, as the city government is still holding discussions on the matter with the T-R-A.

The card can be used by the city's registered residents aged 65 and above who are either citizens or permanent residents.

It contains 480 points that are topped up every month by the Taipei government and the points can be used to take buses, M-R-T, taxis, and YouBikes.

Mexico Court Strikes Down Cellphone Personal Data Registry

發佈於 2022-04-26 10:56:13

Mexico's Supreme Court has struck down a 2021 law that would have required cellphone companies to collect data like fingerprints or eye scans from customers

The court ruled Monday the law was too invasive (侵入性) of personal liberty.

Cellphones in Mexico are often used in kidnappings and extortions, sometimes by inmates calling from prisons.

However, such calls usually made from stolen, pre-paid or ``burner'' phones that the law wouldn't have affected much.

The law was passed by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's Morena party.

It was the latest in a string of failed efforts to reign in phone crimes.
