Kinmen Lawmaker Urges China to Lift Restrictions on Travel to Taiwan

Kinmen County lawmaker Chen Yu-jen is urging Beijing to allow Chinese tourists to visit the outlying island for a major holiday in early October.
According to Chen, such a move would show goodwill at a time of stalled (停滯的) cross-strait tourism-oriented travel.
The call comes as Kinmen County Council Speaker Hong Yun-tien is set to meet with the head of China's Taiwan Affairs Office in Beijing later today.
Hong is leading a delegation to the Chinese capital that includes officials from the Kinmen County Tourism Office, business owners and members of the Kinmen County Council.
AMD to open R&D Hubs in Tainan and Kaohsiung

Advanced Micro Devices (超微半導體) is set to establish research and development hubs in Tainan and Kaohsiung.
That confirmation came after a meeting between Economics Minister J.W. Kuo and A-M-D officials.
The Kaohsiung City Government says its satisfied that A-M-D plans to set-up shop in the city and work to advance the artificial intelligence development and semiconductor industries.
The Tainan City Government Economic Development Bureau is voicing similar thanks - saying further details about the projects --- which will be situated at the Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City will be released next month.
Russia Leader Met Chinese premier Li Qiang

Russian President Vladimir Putin has met with Chinese premier Li Qiang at the Kremlin.
He hailed growing trade relations as Moscow becomes increasingly dependent on Beijing for political and economic support.
Their meeting Wednesday took place as Russia struggled to push back an incursion (進攻) by Ukrainian forces into the Kursk region that began more than two weeks ago.
Moscow was targeted the night before in one of the largest drone waves on the Russian capital since the start of the Ukraine conflict.
Russian news reports did not indicate whether Putin and Li discussed Ukraine. China has tried to position itself as neutral in the Ukraine conflict, but it shares with Russia high animosity toward the West.

Russian authorities say Moscow has come under one of the largest attacks by Ukrainian drones since the start of fighting in 2022, and that it destroyed all of them.
The Ministry of Defense said on Wednesday that Russia downed 45 Ukrainian drones overnight.
Russian social media channels shared videos of drones apparently being destroyed by air defense systems, which then set off car alarms (讓汽車警報都響了).
The attacks come as Ukrainian forces keep up a push into Russia’s western Kursk region.
The incursion has boosted morale in Ukraine but also opened up another front in a fight where Ukrainian forces were already badly stretched (兵力過於稀釋).
Violence costs the world nearly 20 trillion dollars

The UN Security Council (安理會) on Wednesday heard that violence cost the world nearly 20 trillion dollars last year ... or about 13 and a half percent of global GDP.
At a special high-level session of the council, Sierra Leone's (獅子山) Foreign Minister called on members to do more to prevent ever increasing conflicts around the world.

Taylor Swift cancel concerts in Vienna

Two weeks after organizers scrubbed (取消) Taylor Swift’s concerts in Vienna amid a foiled (失敗的) terror plot, the singer issued her first statement on the cancellation.
She called it devastating and said she was filled with a “new sense of fear” and a “tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows.”
She thanked authorities and said she waited to speak until the European leg of her Eras Tour concluded to prioritize safety (安全至上).
Concert organizer Barracuda Music had said it canceled the three-night Vienna run that would have begun Aug. 8 because the arrests made in connection to the conspiracy (密謀) were too close to showtime.
