- Lawmakers Amend Act to Make Seatbelts Mandatory on Long Distance Buses
Lawmakers have passed an amendment to the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act making it mandatory for seatbelts to worn by passengers traveling on long distance buses that use highways, expressways or freeways.
The amendment to Article 31 of the Act applies to all passengers aged from
four years and older as well as bus drivers.

Under the revised (修改) rule, bus drivers will face a maximum fine of 6,000
N-T if they fail to inform passengers to wear seat belts.
Lawmakers proposed the amendment following the March bus crash in Yilan
County's Su-Ao Township, which left six people dead and 39 others injured -
some of those passengers were thrown from the bus in the crash.

- Abe Warns China on Taiwan Invasion
Beijing is lashing out at Japan's former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe after he
warned China that there would be economic and security consequences (後果) if
it engaged in military action against Taiwan.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wen-bing said Abe had made what he called "irresponsible remarks on China's internal affairs."
Wang also said protests have been expressed to Japan via diplomatic channels.

Abe had warned that any emergency involving Taiwan would be seen as "an
emergency for both Tokyo and its alliance with Washington."
He called the democratic world to prevent a Chinese invasion by jointly
urging Beijing "not to choose the wrong path"; and stressed that any
military action targeting Taiwan would be "economic suicide" for China.
The former Prime Minister also said maintaining cross-strait peace is in the
interests of all parties involved.
