The Tai-Ex opened 161-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 46,325on turnover of $10-billion N-T.
Shares in Taiwan fell sharply Wednesday as a spike (急遽上升) in international crude oil prices amid renewed United States attacks on Iran heightened fears of inflationary pressures.
The bellwether electronics index fell 2.06 percent after contract chipmaker TSMC shed 2.25 percent, and with the tech sector facing a sell-off, buying rotated to select old economy stocks as safe havens (避險標的).
The financial sector also outperformed the broader market, rising 0.45percent, as analysts say many stocks have been undervalued, encouraging bargain hunters to buy.

Civil groups are calling for the release of Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong after he pleaded guilty (認罪) to a national security charge with a potential life sentence.
Representatives from groups including Amnesty International Taiwan and the Taiwan Hong Kong Association called for Wong's release and for charges against him to be dropped.
They also urged an end to what they called the use of national security laws to suppress (壓制／打壓) peaceful advocacy and freedom of expression (言論自由).
They also called on Taiwan's government to publicly speak out over Wong's case.
The 29 year old is already serving a 4 year 8 month prison sentence in a separate national security case, which he had been expected to complete early next year.
Congo Ebola Outbreak Kills Over 3000

Congo’s Ebola outbreak (疫情爆發) has killed more than 3,000 people out of more than 6,100 confirmed cases.
That's according to the latest government statistics from Wednesday.
Numbers from Congo's Ministry of Health show that the outbreak has recorded 6,186 confirmed cases including 3,007 deaths since it was declared in mid-May.
It remains the fastest-growing outbreak of the disease ever.
The disease has continued to spread rapidly for several reasons.
They included conflict in the eastern region of the country where the outbreak is concentrated (集中於).
The resumption of school in the middle of the outbreak has also raised concerns about transmission in classrooms.

French President Emmanuel Macron and Britain's King Charles III have visited the Bayeux Tapestry at the British Museum.
They hailed the 1,000-year-old artwork as a symbol of the intertwined (緊密交織的) histories of France and Britain.
The tapestry, depicting (描繪) the 1066 Norman conquest of England, is on loan from France for a 10-month exhibition.
This marks the first time it has been in Britain since the 11th century.
The visit underscores efforts to strengthen ties between the two nations,especially following Brexit.
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Macron are due to hold talks today.
